Tansmision help

So my transmission blew this weekend so I need some help finding a shop. I am in Bay Area so if any one of you knows any shops that can do a conversion to a 6 speed, or even just swap the transmission back to an auto.
thnks for the help/

Thumbs up

Same thing just happened to me. I have a 2000 TL, 121,xxx miles, out of warranty. Called my dealer and talked to the service rep. I asked (pleaded) for the Acura Goodwill repair possibility and he was non-committal. Made an appointment and asked for a loaner. He said he'd have one after 6pm. It will cost me $125 to "get it looked at".

Took it in today around 3PM and a different rep who recognized me came over to help me out. She asked what was up and I expalined the situation. She took the information and promptly gave me a 2009 TL as a loaner (3500 miles). She said she'd talk to Acura and see what they could do and mentioned I was a good customer.

One hour later, she calls and the job is $5100. But Acura and dealer is picking up $4200!!! So my cost will be around $900 without tax. NICE!!!

So, call your local dealer and see what they can do for you. Hope you get lucky like I did.

Go to the dealer first and try to talk to the service manager about doing a goodwill trans replacement where you only have to pay labor. It may be hard to talk to the manager since the reps will think your about to complain, but be persistent about it. I got my car back today from a trans replacement, they covered everything 100% including labor, I was over on the time limit but under on mileage. They also goodwilled two new steering knuckles and I only paid for my worn out ball joints. I think dealers are doing everything they can right now to retain customers in this economy...

service writers are salespeople of service- they make money on you spending money,,,so bypass them when its time for a manager!!
Simply tell them- I know you have done a great job so far for me, and what you are empowered to,
Now I would like to ask the mananger for Goodwill help from corp,,,if you please--thank you....dont worry- you still get 10s on the survey card!!

So true about the survey, this is the second time they pulled me aside after all was said and done and asked me to think of them when it comes to the survey...I always give my dealer the highest marks, so far they have been great.

I also hound some shop who will rebuilt it for 1500 and they offer 1 year warranty, so worse comes to worse thats my best bet.

your opinion counts to corp, and survey results on the card that should come with your receipt (ask for one if needed), email and phone all get heard by corp and routed back to the dealer
If someone really took care of you- name them!
bonus checks ride on survey results~
Acura considers anything less than perfect 10s to be a failing grade

1500 is a bargain- most places run 2500-2800 so make sure exactly how many of the TL trans they have done at that shop-- by a current tech there- and what parts are included

he said he s gonna rebuilt it, not change it.
now i am kinda wondering if its worth my money to convert to a 6-speed, and what other transmissions would fit my car.

Go the 6-speed route if you can afford it. I wouldn't bypass that opportunity. Get the parts list off of this site and see what they quote you.

I would either pay for the Acura replacement or go with the 6pd swap. Rebuilding that trans will result in the same failure due to improper lubrication/cooling to the gears/clutch packs.
