Question tail lights

does anyone have an idea of how the yellow in the 2000 TL tail lights can be hidden or painted? I don't want the 2002 tails, I want them black or something. Will the High temperature paint work? If anyone has done this or has any ideas, please post. Pics will be nice. THANKS

Are you talking about the yellow/amber part of the lense?
If so, then painting them black would leave you with no turn-signals
or hazard lights in the back, wouldn't it?

I suppose you could plug the turn-signal bulb into one of the two sockets that house the brake lights on either side.
Or, maybe you can wire the brake lights to flash (like some cars do - brake lights and turn-signals in one).

Im talking about like this. The yellow looks like it was painted black. Is it just me? was this photoshopped?

Hmmm, interesting....
If you look at the ground carefully, it looks as though just the back
end of the car may have been in the shade and made the entire
lense look darker. The reverse lights look very dark as well.

If not that, then I'd have to say they look like they look tinted.
I have seen spray-on window tints available in the past, maybe
it's one of those.

Why not just try to find out who the owner of this TL is and ask?

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful~
Good luck!

I'll tell you what you can do...it's what I'm going to do. I want to "black out" my headlights and taillights (the smoke effect), but don't want to pay for it to be done or whatnot. So I found this stuff called nightshade. What it does is act as a one way tint, so that the lights look black when off, but you can see them fine when they're on (the colors very readily shine through, like a 1% loss or something extremely small). I have a link where you can buy a whole can for $8...I'd love for you to try it on your TL so I can see how it'll look on mine

You can buy it here: http://www.impalasuperstore.com/catalog/page16.htm

Here's the site where a guy I've been talking to did it:
http://www.acidplus.com/speed/ext_black_tail.shtml

He said it was extremely painless. I've attached the final picture below. I really want someone to try this, because I want to

No no, it's not going to screw up my car...that's not why I'm worried. Ha I know I made it sound like that. Besides, I can buy new tails for the car. I just don't know how it'd look on a black car...and I was hoping to see more pics of very dark tinted before I did it...I think it just may be too much black...that's all. I was really hoping someone with a black TL had already done it so I could see how it looks. I may take the plunge anyway...but I talked to the guy who did the tinted lights I posted the pic of, and he said it looks great, and it was really easy...I'm just one of those guys that doesn't like to do anything non-changeable to my car (which is why actually one of my car stereo requirements was to be able to turn it back to factory condition if I ever needed to).

Looks like a few other guys here tinted their lights, but just not nearly as dark as I want mine. Badazz, since I'm worried about too much black...you think it'd be a good idea to tint the rear lights black and leave the front lights completely alone?

Austin519
p.s. - you just let me know if you'd like to try it first....

yeah on a black car, that would look awesome! you should leave the headlights alone however. IMO i think it looks like your headlights have a black eye I'll let you know if i try it first. I probably will try this before I spend $300 on the 2002 tails.

Ah so you agree with me then? Tinted rears, normal front. I think I'm going to get a clear lens for the spoiler too, and not tint it. That may break up the black some more. Hey, if you're going to get some 2002 tails then you have no excuse you better tint your old tails before me. Hey, I may even buy those old tails from you then, so I have my factory pair untinted...hmmm.

But yeah man...go tint those babies! I wanna see!!! And if you don't like it, it doesn't matter, you're getting some 2k2 tails anyway.

Thumbs up

ok I'll tell you what. I'll order the stuff tomorrow...I have to get a money order. Then I'll do mine and post some pics. I don't have a digicam so it may be a few weeks before I get around to painting and then posting. If I sell the 2000 tails, I can put it toward some 2002's

Woohoo! That rocks. I totally can't wait to see man. Just something to think about, I bet you can sell some well tinted 2000 lights a lot better than just the factory ones (we just can't tell them how we did it). You don't have a credit card to pay over the phone? D@mn...yeah that may take awhile...but at least you're not doing a personal check...that'd take longer. Sucks you have to do a money order for only $8. Ah well...let me know man, my email is Austin519@aol.com.

Tail lights are very easy to remove. Problem is Acura used a freakin air gun to tighten the screws. Hope your or your dad are strong. What ever you do dont strip the screws either. That was my mistake.

How did you get your tails like that? Did you use spray tint? Also, were those regular tails of inspire tails before?

My blinkers came out really dark, they look black, not tinted. You can't even see the yellow underneath unless the blinker is on or the sun is beaming on it. You can't get much darker than that. I was thinking of doing the whole tailight but I don't think it would look that good on a black car.

Thanks for the info 96TL...tell me...what did you do yours with? I've got a black TLs myself...I'm thinking of doing the whole tail black...get a clear bumper, and leave the headlights...that'd break up some of the black. Maybe even get some of that silver trim that you can bend and stick on to put around the lights...may help even more...what do you think?
