Tail Light Voltage

Just wondering, is the volatage going back to the rear taillights, when you have your lights on, around 14 volts? or is it lowered before it reaches the taillights to 12 volts?

Don't have a voltmeter so i can't check this myself. Just wondering if anyone knew off the top of your head.

Since i'll be taping the rear tail lights power soon, for the jdm spoiler, i need to know if its 12 or 14 volts so i can wire up the red led's i have correctly.

thx

Just assume 12V and it should work fine. The battery pumps out 12V, but when the car is on, the alternator pumps out ~14V, I think. The +2V won't matter so just estimate it with 12V.

For all intensive purposes it should just really be considered at 12Vs... why did you think that it would matter though? Most items have an operating voltage of like 11Vs to like 16Vs so as long its in the range its all good.

since i'll be wiring red leds in parrallel i wanted to make sure i had the correct number without the need for any resistors. So just wanted a base voltage to go off of when doing the math.

Oh ok but it doesnt come with the led section prebuilt and you have to mount the individual leds yourself? it goes from like 12Vs to about 13.8Vs, car off and car on.

correct, i'm building this myself. Its to replace teh green led's that come in the jdm inspire spoiler. So since i'll be wiring those lights to the tail lights i just need to know the voltage that would be supplied in order to build the proper led arrays.

Thx for the volt ratings, it gives me a good starting point.

Use 13.8 since for the most part they'll be on only when the car is on since u'll be driving. It'll be just slightly dimmer when the car is off and you step on the brake
