Post Synthetic oil and break-in revisited...

I was just at Acura having my door striker adjusted (driver's door didn't sit quite flush, fixed in less than 1 hour and washed, thank you) and I asked about synthetic oil and how long I should wait, if any time at all.

The tech said that the engine parts such as rings would still not be broken in when I first change the oil at about 3500 miles, and that I should wait until at least 5500 miles for synth. I will just wait until my second oil change to do it, and will put normal oil in at about 3500.

Also, I asked about additives such as Slik50, and he said the same thing: wait until at least 5500 miles. So there you have it - yet ANOTHER opinion on the subject! I bet I could have walked to the next guy and gotten a different answer...

Yeah everyone has their own thoughts on the subject...But in my opinion, i'd use Prolong not Slick 50 or anything else you use once...It just gunks up your engine...

Not that I have a problem w/ Prolong (I use their paint product and like it), but you claim that Slik50 "gunks up your engine"... care to back that up?

Well i did start to feel the lag in my Mitsu Diamante when i stuck the slick 50 in....I also did end up with some clumpy oil after i poured that stuff in...Maybe it was just in my case. I also think that because Prolong has to be renewed, every oi lchange, they gotta get you hooked on it so you buy more, kinda like a drug...
