I use Redline 5w20 with an Amsoil filter. I made the switch around 4200 miles and I've been using synthetics ever since.

Youu change every 7K

I know someone will yell "search" at me but...

I've had a few cars and the schedule has always varied, when I had my Olds Alero - it had a "change oil" sensor and it went off like clock work every 7000 ~ 7500K miles. Some manuals say 4500, some say 3000.....

so what the dealio?? is the 3000/3month schedule dreamt up by the Jiffylubes of the world? Like Hallmark keeps inventing holidays to sell cards?

The oil change interval mostly depends on the driving condition. If you drive a lot in the city using regular oil (non-syn) then 3000 miles is about right since you car will mostly be idle (such as waiting for traffic lights , for parking spot, traffic jam) where your engine will be running but your mileage does not.

Synthetic oil tends to last longer so it does not require frequent changes.

Just my $0.02.

Cheers !!!

Big topic, no simple answers
My advice: if you plan to sell this car before 100K you can use regular, if you have a goal to be driving beyond 100K miles, use synthetics and follow your owners manual for time interval on when to change oil.

Twice the price, twice the change interval.

Sounds like a breakeven to me

Interestingly enough, the Royal Purple bottle actually says "12,000" mile intervals...I stick with about 7k which is about every 3 months...

Here in Bay Area, I won't be surprised if some people actually commute as far as 200 miles round trip to work daily. So, that will make it 5x200 miles a week and 4x5x200 miles a month. The mileage does not include weekends and vacation trips.

So, 7k miles a month is a possible.
