which synthetic

I am a fan of mobil 1 I went to cahnge oil today and was surprised when I looked in the manual(RTFM) the oil they specified was 5W20 Mobil does not make a 5W20. How bad is it to use a lowerviscosity oil and what all are you guys doing for a synthetic?

This topic has been brought up numerous times. You can do a search, but I can tell you this much. 5W20 is basically what Acura wants you to use because of the enviorment friendly thin base where you can save more gas. 5W30 will give you more protection with only a tad bit difference in gas mileage. As of right now, Mobil 1 does not offer synthetic in the 5W20 grade, so if you really want it in that grade, get Redline or Amsoil. As for me, I will use Mobil 1 5W30 on my next oil change (I have '03 TL) because I rather have more protection and don't care much about gas mileage.

1- Mobil 1, Amsoil, Redline are all good oils.
please consider a better oil filter. The life of the oil and your engine protection for that matter, is only as good as your filtration.
Mobil 1 or a K&N filter. I dont recommed Fram. (Its a classic " you get what you pay for..")

2- I prefer not to use 5W20.. I like to protect my engine rather that gain a fraction of a hair on gas mileage.

I understand the PureOne is quite good.. and a touch more affordable.

5w20 does not offer more protection, its actually much worse for the engine than 5w30 is. Get that crap out of the car and use 5w30.

But also to make note, MOBIL 1 does now offer a 5w20 Synthetic oil.

I never said 5w20 give you better protection. If you read my post carefully, I said 5w30 has better protection and 5w20 saves a tad bit more gas.

It may be but it contains PTFE, which is teflon, and causes the engine wall to pit thus resulting in loss of compression...you do the math.

My suggestion is Mobil 1 Synthetic, Acura Oil Filter

So what does it mean, loss of power or damage to the engine?

I think they are great..
I have on both my TL and the family minivan.
I have cut a few open after oil changes, and they are built quite tough...They contain more of the filter medium (more pleets) and the bypass valves have a good design.
Fram filter are crap...!!
