Question swapping a 5spd auto for 4spd???????

Hey guys, i know a lot here have problems with there tranny going on 2000 and newer normally. So out of curiousity is it possible to swap a 4spd auto from a 99tl to a 2001 lets say. And since both are OB2 ECU and basically the same car you should be able to plug and play the ECU.

I just brought this up cause it might save you money in the long run since acura isn't really fixing the problem and because my friend beats on his 99tl a lot and its held up fine.

any thoughts??

Just curious, how long did your tranny last? Got a 99TL (91k) myself.

i have a 99tl w/some mods 107k miles and it shifts perfectly. I beat on my car from time to time also. On average the 4spd tranny is far more reliable than the 5spd. Every tranny out there will have some problems its just the severity and regularity of these problems per car. For instance lets say 00-03 tl's have 1 tranny issue per 5 cars and 99 tl has 1 tranny issue per 50 cars. That is a difference, but there is always the possiblity that a 99 tl tranny could go on you. I wouldn't do a swap if I were you. If you want a 99tl tranny then sell your car and buy a 99tl and use the extra cash for some mods!

You would most likely have to use a 99 ECU, plus you'd have to buy the gear selector as well. I think there would be significant issue with the tranny/ECU relationship in the 00-03.
