Post Survey: TL with Comptech Springs

For those with comptech springs, I got a question for you.

1. How many miles have you put on your Comptech lowering springs?

2. Can you check the tires and see if you have uneven tire wear?

I think there were some ppl with Comptechs that were getting uneven tire wear because of the negative camber. How are you guys with Comptech springs? Any uneven tire wear?? Please confirm.

My previous car (97 lude) was lowered 1.75" and I was gettng hecka uneven tire wear... so I'm guessing a TL would also.

Thnks in advance. I'm thinking of switching to Comptechs Springs from H&R OEM Springs... damn thing isn't low enough for me any more!

I have about 16,000 mi. on my Comptech springs. Tires are fine!
Just make sure to do the computerized 4-wheel alignment right after the springs are installed!

I probably have about 14,000 miles on my springs, and they are doing just fine! Tires wearing even too!

I have almost 25,000 miles with Comptech springs and my tires are wearing very evenly. As long as you get a 4 wheel alignment right after you lower your car, you should be fine.

Would it not be better to get an alignment done after driven the car with new springs for a while before they settle. ie. like say maybe a week or two and then getting alignment done?

You don't need a camber kit for Comptech springs.

Although I like my comptech springs a lot, I still would prefer the Apex'i coilover system for a bit more money and includes new shocks.

You usually would have the shop align your wheels as close as possible to the stock specs. Or you can get the camber correction kit and align your wheels to the angles of your liking.

SLVR TL- You are not the only one! I am getting uneven tire wear on the inner part of my rear tires. Sort of a wavy type of wear. And yes, I did get a four wheel alignment after installing the springs. The left rear shows a -1.8 camber and the right rear shows a -1.2 camber. Both of these are out of the specified range and have pretty much ruined my tires.

I don't know what to do execpt buy a rear camber kit and new tires. Any ideas or suggestions?

For the record, I am not getting any uneven tire wear. I wanted to know if anyone was getting uneven tire wear with comptechs because I'm considering switching from H&R OE to Comptechs.

You should probably have another shop do an alignment. Maybe the first shop didn't do it right. IF you're within specs, there is no way you will get uneven tire wear. Besides, it appears most, if not all, of the members on the board with comptechs have not had any uneven tire wear problem. If the problem still persists after the second alignment, you might have to buy the camber correction kit. It's alot cheaper to invest in the correction kit than to keep on replacing the tires. Just my $.02.

Thanks everyone for replying.

I have ordered Comptechs from Snook and should be receiving them shortly.

I wonder if my H&R OE springs have resale value.... I'll post a thread in "For Sales" section once I swap the springs.

I bet you are getting toe out wear, one way to check it is put your palm on top of the tire and rub your palm on the tire towards the wheel well, if you feel sharp edge, it is toe out wear. If you go the opposite way, wheel well towards the outside and feel sharp edge, it is toe in wear, and both can be correct by adjusting the toe. Little bit toe out will benefit handling in turn. Just my 2 cents.
