Question Supercharger or Turbo?

Who makes a turbo or a supercharger for the '00 TL 3.2?

What would you use?

How much Horsepower?

and why would you choose one over another?

Which is best if NOS is a future consideration?

Cost Factor?

As far as I know, no one makes either a turbo or SC kit for that years TL. You would be required to go custom at this time.

The issues with choosing one over the other are far reaching and primarily depends on your goals and cost constraints. Turbo’s will generally cost more but give more potential. If you do go custom you may be able to get into a turbo for marginally higher cost.

you can either get a Type S intake manifold so the Comptech supercharger will fit, OR custom mount it on there...

As for turbo, it's going to be custom, should cost about the same... The thing is, since it's custom work, it'll take longer. But you can for sure get more power out of a turbocharger...

Nitrous is good for either one, but I would personally go with a turbocharger just because it should give you more power.

upgrade your tranny before you do anything or else you will be paying for those too. There is no way that a dealer will cover a fi car.

Ok
Supercharger= low end torque and low end hp
(roots type blower)

Supercharger(centrifugal)= essentially a belt driven turbo..you get turbo lag..no low end gains, but more top end gains than the roots..less efficient than a turbo, but cheaper, easier install)

Turbo=good high end gains, and you can easily crank more psi out of it if u want more power..downside, you reallly need to rebuild ur bottom end if ur gonna crank up the boost, more expensive to do a custom install..

Tranny..good idea to reinforce this.. try levelten..at www.levelten.com or you can goto your local AAMCO ..search around for the site, they both offer lifetime warranties on rebuilt trannies.

G/L and happy modding.

Actually, IMHO, the turbo lag is not really an issue with the techonology today. But the downside of it is less HP at higher rev.

The supercharger needs engine power to drive it. So, you could spend like from 50HP to like 100HP just to drive the supercharger at high rpm.

With a turbo, you don't need HP to drive it. However, if you got for a smaller turbo that give little to none turbo lag, you won't be able to make as must HP at the top end. Because you can't get enough boost.

The point of having the bypass or blow off valve, is to protect the turbo itself, not the engine (well it kinda does), but if the turbo is spinning too fast, then it will demage itself. The solution is to use a larger turbo to create more boost, but got more lag, or a twin turbo system, that will need more piping and perhaps more complex and potentially weight more.

nothing is really better or worse, it's just the trade off that you have to take and decide. I personally like turbo, but don't think I will ever want to turbo my TL.

One good example is to look at the MB S/CL/SL600 ttV12 VS the S/E/SL55. The V12 alone helps to more power, sure. But look at the low end torque. Now you think the V12 TT got turbo lags?

In actual fact, when bump up the displacement of that engine and tune up the boost, like what MB and Brabus a doing, you are a engine that's just as powerful as the Enzo Ferrai engine, if not more.

Because you get more lower end torque (which is HP) with the MB engine, compare to the Ferrai, which only got the top end.

i agree with SL1200MK4 the only thing about our cars though is that we would benefit more from a supercharger unless we could bum[p up that redline. In a perfect world we'd run a turbo just because getting off the line with a front wheel drive car is a *****. Imagine a tl with a 6 speed tranny, custom turbo, 8500 rpm redline. We woldnt need to worry about launching at all, because once the turbo kicks in from whatever rpm till redline we'd be making crazy power.
