What is the purpose of the sunlight sensor in my 01 TL?

 

My guess would be that its used to schedule the air conditioning compressor. i.e. if it senses sunlight it will run the compressor more often than if its cloudy or nighttime....

 

It controls climate control fan speed. When you're in direct sunlight the cabin airflow is increased to maintain the desired temp.

 

Works wonders on unsuspecting passengers. If I'm driving in the shade and then hit sunlight, I'll say something like "Did you know the TL has a subterrainian flow tarp brain wave sensor? Watch. I'll ask the car to make the a/c blow stronger..."

Automatic wiper shut off is another great gag

 

 

What's the auto wiper shutoff?

 

Set your wipers on intermittent, but turn the delay knob all the way on. The wipers operate at normal speed but will switch back to intermittent when you come to a stop since the rain "slows down" when you stop.
