Angry Sunglass holder problem

Hi my sunglass holder doesn't open properly anymore. When i try to open it, it just drops very fast without any support. Before it used open very slowly and smooth. Now its just drops when i try to open it. Anyone know how to fix this problem? I asked the dealer ship and they told me I would have to replace the whole link console. It would cost me 300.00 plus labor. I dont' really wanna spend that much. Any advice would surely be appreciated.

Thanks

about all i can say is to take it out and see if there is something you can repair, if not your probably going to have to buy a new one or live with it.

Pop off the plastic piece over the map lights and remove the two screws, open the sunglass holder and remove the other two screws. Pull the whole piece down and unclip the wire harness. Check inside the sunglass holder for any broken teeth in the gears. You will notice that the glasses tray is attached by plastic welds, so there is no good way to replace just the tray. I would try to find a new one in a junk yard or on ebay for cheap. It takes seconds to install, unless you only have one arm, then it may take a couple minutes, but there is no reason to let the dealership charge you for an hour worth of labor...it's only four damn screws and a wire harness after all.

Thank you so much, I did find one on ebay for only 20bucks! plus shipping. I just bought it and I will follow your instructions.

Thanks again!

hello I’m having the same issue. I have a 2013 rdx and I removed the screws in the lights. But there are no screws in the sunglasse holder.

Yeah, most people who've owned a 2G TL are long gone.

a little searching in the right place will help. in general: get the service manual for the car and look through there, it will tell you how to remove and install most items.

on the oem parts website, you can see there are four screws, although they only show two. there are the two as shown near the sunglasses holder, but also two more once you remove the plastic cover for the lightbulbs.

mine was somehow cracked so I replaced it with one from a junkyard; cost me $15.

Not sure if this will help. My TL came with the door for a garage door opener that was swapped out for the sunglasses holder. I still have the box and opener door. Here's the pic from the back of the box. Looks like the door simply pops out.
