suggestions for BUYING a replacement tranny?

I have over 150k on my 02 type s. The tranny is toast but I have a friend who is a service writer at a Honda dealership. Unfortunately, he said that Acura bought up all the trannys a few weeks ago because they are running out of supply for the replacement of others' in warranty trannys.

Long story short all he can find is a used one from a junkyard with 82k for $950 parts.

I saw this on ebay and would feel much better about the 3yr 36k warranty, since I will have the car at least 2 more years.

What option is best, and what are some other suggestions? (no warranty suggestions please)

go to the dealer, then if it fails you have the warranty to fall on

Ive never heard of any dealer sitting on warranty trans- they must be ordered per vehicle basis--why would honda have acura trans laying around?

Acura doesnt run out of trans!- there are so many returned on failure that there are plenty of cases to go around to be filled with used and new parts and sent to the next failed unit exchange-
plus there was a case design change resulting in new castings for cases -started in early 2005

In general a junkyard trans will need overhaul since its been sitting around unused

Awesome advice. Yea I dunno, but I think he is referring to new transmissions. Im not sure why he didn't say anything about a Honda remanufactured unit... Either way, he found one for $2100 remanufactured with a 3 yr warranty.

Heres my question: how do you know if it is a newer post 05 tranny? I found this list and noticed that there seems to be 3 different model #s that will fit my car. One is labeled "sport", but all seem to fit (02 type s).

Ok I guess I didn't read it close enough. Looks like mine is the A87RM, but I didn't think that the type s tranny was any different from the non type s tranny....
