My front and rear bumper are looking very bad. Some minor chips down to the black material. The chrome on the grill also looks very bad. Any suggestions on what to do with a 2002 TL type S with these cosmetic defects? The transmission was just rebuilt (alas I didn't read the posts here when I okayed a $3G repair by my mechanic).

Tx

Repainting about $800.

Go get some estimates at reputable bodyshops and go with the lowest bidder.

Sounds about right based on a quote I got last year.

Can you do it yourself? I use these people for auto-quality exact color match paint mixed and delivered in a spray can. I also buy their clear coat.

Touch Up Paint and Accessories | AutomotiveTouchup

I've used them on my Corvette and will be using them for some touch up spots on my Acura where the clear coat has let go.

One can diy but not with a spray can. The spay can does not spray enough material to cover a panel on a car. The spray pattern is too narrow. In this case bumpers. Especially if the color is metallic. The metalics will be uneven from dry spots. Some metalics will lay flat and some will stand on it's end causing blotches or tiger stripes.
