Stupid rock chips
Stupid rock chips
Hey all, I just got the front of my car repainted and I already have 3 small rock chips.
I want to get a clear bra but it's soooo expensive. Anyone know a place in md and va that I can get it done for less than 400? Do you guys have any suggestion in avoiding rock chips? I drive to and back from the wilson bridge everyday to work. With all the constructions going on, there are alot of rocks on the road.

These are the thinks I try to do to avoid it:
1) I do not speed.
2) I do not drive behind 18 wheeler trucks that carry rocks ect.
3) I try to keep my distance.
I was thinking about buying one of those acura bra for the front but I can't find one and I am not sure if it will fit because I have the wings west front lip. What do you guys think?

cant realy help you cuz I am in the same situation kind of. my front bumper is destroyer with rock chips cuz of winter highway driving. and in my province they dont put salt on the roads but sand so that makes it even worse. I am am thinking of respraying the front end but I dont think its worth it on a 9 year old car and paint probably wont match anyways.
there realy isnt any way to avoid this, its just normal wear and tear

Do as suggested above to minimize the rock chip damages, but you will not be able to avoid it unless you can asure there will be no traffic in front of you. Don't waste money on the mask or the clear bra, save the money in case you needed to repaint the hood again.
not sure if "keeping your distance" does any good. the only times i have gotten windshield chips is when i kept my distance. The day i picked up my car i was trailing a semi, like really really really trailing, and i was actually able to watch this tiny piece of reflective rock shoot from out his tire and fly in to my window, not at, but in to. It embedded itself in the glass. I was impressed, but pissed.
So my only suggestion is to park your car in the garage and drive a beater to work.

Just to give my :twocents: but its def. worth spending the money on a quality install job. Because you WILL see the bubbles/wrinkles/misalignments....
And they are a pain to lay down.

I think there is no way to avoid. Most rocks are small and the cars trravelling at 60-70 mph will have no trouble hurling the rocks at great distance.

Has anyone tried either of these? And if so, do they work?
