Post stupid question about stock rim/tire weight

Sorry, but this is bothering me.

I'm selling a set of stock 2000 TL rims and tires on Ebay. The tires are mounted and balanced and all that.

The question is: I put 2 rim/tire sets in each box and the boxes weigh around 95 pounds each. In the interest to the buyer, does it matter if the tires are inflated? Is the air adding extra weight? It just doesn't make sense that each Rim/Tire combo is 47 pounds. Is that possible? I didn't think air weighed anything, but again, the weight doesn't make sense.

Any help (and not laughing) would be appreciated.

Thanks!

ROFLMAO! Yes, the air adds many pounds to the package. How much does a ballon weigh again?

I'm curious as to what a stock rim without the rubber weighs. No one has been able to answer that question and I've asked it many times.

Hey, I said don't laugh. It still makes no sense. If I take a baloon and blow it up with air (not helium) you're saying that it would be heavier??
You can tell that I never paid attention in science class huh? Still makes no sense to me... IT'S AIR! I guess some things I just wasn't meant to understand.

Don't forget it's compressed air... but again 47 lb seems too much .... maybe it does weight that much.

forget about the air issue, it weighs almost nothing.
i weighed my stock rim/tire combo last week, 41 lbs. my tires have almost no tread, so i would not be suprised to see a new one weigh around 45 lbs. and dont forget your box adds about a couple pounds.

I sold my stock rims and tires a few weeks back. They only had about 1000 miles on them and each weighted in 44 lbs.

Air most certainly does have mass and consequently weight, but not a lot in a small volume like a tire.

Demonstration: go to the top of a mountain or big hill and drive a car down. Did your ears pop? Yes, because as you go down hill, there's more and more air above you. The more air above, the more it weighs and the more compressed it becomes.

Now, go out into outerspace and take off your space pressure suit. Oops, sorry - you're dead. That's because there's no air pressure in space, and the air dissolved in your blood just boiled. That's an extreme version of "the bends" where SCUBA divers ascend too quick from a deep dive and their blood boils.

One last demo: swim to the bottom of a pool. Hurt your ears? That's because the more water above you, the more weight and pressure on you. Air is a fluid just like water, although the air is less dense on Earth and weighs a lot less. It does have weight, though.

If so, tight! My 19s weigh 25.125 and I'm sure my 35 series tires weigh a little less than stock, so my entire setup should weigh less than stock!
