Stock speakers issues, help!
I just installed a new Panasonic head unit on my brothers '02 TL-S since the stocker wouldn't work with the Ipod. The speakers start to crack once the volume gets decently high. He wants to know why it distorts the sound so much when using the Ipod or CD player, but barely at all when on the FM radio? I think its because its not using the full power, being that the Radio sucks and cd's and mp3's are all very high quality.....
MAke sure the ipod volume is set from 60%-80%.... experiment with what works. i used to have fm transmitter and it would crack like hell at low volume. should be the same with your headunit. set the ipod volume before you plug it into the adapter or you wont be able to change it independently afterwards. again, your ipod volume, not your stereo's.

try experimenting different levels with the ipod and the stereo volume.... if it still is messed up it's probably the head unit
tell your brother to upgrade the speakers! I dont know if thats the problem or not, but the factory speakers in the TL are terrible.. put some components up front and its a night and day difference!! it's like going from a black and white to a color tv..
cd's and mp3 are digitally higher sound than that of the am-fm radio. So you ever notice that your cd's are louder and clearer than the radio? Like a higher voltage output will be more clearer and louder than a lower output. Most competition deck have a higher voltage. Its not totally your speakers but your head unit is playing at a high volume and your speakers can't produce it. Since your HU is changed I change out the speakers as well. This is my 2 cents. Thank you

Thanks guys. Tim I think you hit the nail on the head. I suggested that it was because of the higher sound quality and I did notice that at the same volume level cd's and the radio have different intensities. Now 1 last thing, Are the speakers in the doors all 6" speakers? He just got home with 2 sets of Boston Acoustics Component speakers, all 6"...those should fit right?

I would get new speakers. i got new speakers in my 99tl and it made a huge difference with my alpine head unit. i have 2 12" alpine type r's and when you turn up the music the speakers sound horrible. the bose is nice if u use all the stock pieces but once u mess with any part of it the sound quailty is lost. and another thing is i used 6.5 speakers in my doors not 5.25.
honestly i have a new pioneer headunit and everything but the radio sucks ass when comming out of the speakers...If you change ur headunit on a TL, from Bose to aftermarket, you NEED to change your SUB and your SPEAKERS, because it just sounds horrible. i mean maybe mine are just blown..but honestly i would buy a new 8in' Kicker Sub to replace the factory sub in the trunk, and then new component speakers in the front and new speakers in the rear..and then thats it! Not to mention an ipod adapter that will hook up to any latest pioneer headunit..works great!
