many threads on our light problems
easy fix is a kit with 2 new ballast, ignitors and 2 new bulbs
age and moisture issues are the cause of failure

www.hidextra.com has a very good set for 59$!,,half what anyone else wants
they support acurazine too

thats all you need, the $59 kit = no extra parts, and suggest 5000k bulbs for best to see road with

easy diy, clip a few wires and splice/connectors together

The ballasts are very similar. It's pretty much remove the old ones and splice in the aftermarket ones. I think there's a DIY around here somewhere.

we have HID stock, not 12volt halogen

the kit I mentioned has all the parts of the hid system- for both sides of car,,low beams only
our problem is moisture gets inside the housing lens and drips out onto the ballast

the kits parts are much smaller than stock units, and can be remote mounted.
I went to the side of frame rail for ease of install

simple diy= if you can use wire cutters you are good to go

you can also convert our 12 volt `halogen gas filled bulb` HIGH beams,
to HID
with a similar kit, and relay for it

kits for fog lights too!

With Fogs HIDs you can See the Sidelines of the Road Much Better with HIDs on the High Beams well you can basically Pierce Blackness Tru-The Night...

For Maximum Visibility I would go with 6K Lows/Fogs + 5K Highs.
For Show but at Cost of some Visibility go with 8K Lows/Fogs + 5K Highs

8K Still Anihilates any Halogen Bulb in the Lm Output department its Just some people find difficult to see the Light in Black Tarmac (Not Me), This is Not a Problem for Extreme White sources like 5K.

FYI:
4300K lm Output is: -/+3400 (AMBER)
5000K lm Outpus is: -/+3300 (ULTRA WHITE)
6000K lm Outpus is: -/+3200 (SKY WHITE)
8000K lm Output is: -/+3100 (POLAR WHITE)

Anything Beyond 8K is USELESS since they become DARK LIGHTs like True Blue, Ultra Blue.. Another Info:
Halogen is 1700lm High Beams and 1200lm Low Beams.
10000K lm Outpus is: -2100Lm (BLUE)
12000K lm Outpus is: -1900Lm (ULTRA BLUE)

for me, with some vision issue at night,
after using 6000k for a few years
and now on 5000s for a year = 5000k MUCH better to see the road and objects on the road

6k does a better job of picking out the road edge lane paint and road signs--anything reflective lights up,
but
more USEABLE white light on the road in front of you with 5000

I dont care how the car looks from outside,,bluish white,,blue blue lights,,
SEE and avoid objects is what I use the lights for!

real fog use in fogs- 3000k yellow
stock TL- 4300

anything over 6000kelvin is a waste of money

I have the same problem(sorta). The Tl I recently purchased has no bulbs, and the factory hid is incomplete. Most shops here in Orlando advertise $45-$65 installed but that's for cars that don't have factory HID. A few shops want to charge just to look and give you a estimate, I skipped those. I found one shop that quoted me $80(owner has the same model) and another shop that actually took a look for free, and quoted me $100. Told me what it involves, and how long it will take to do the job and it comes with warranty. If you choose not to get the kit everyone is talking about to do it yourself, make sure the place you use gives you a warranty on the work.

no way a shop will do this for under 100 bucks,,
labor alone is an hour to remove the nose and housings then install new parts

I'm using 8000K and things seem to be just fine to me, IMO... Even with the regular high beams, they can still pierce through darkness, will provide a decent pic soon.

lets run thru niles canyon ,,,me on 5s and you on 8s- at night
and see who can find the apex better
and avoid animals~

I thought 6000 was awesome, compared running side by side with an 03 on stock bulbs, me on 6s
he had more white in front, but I had more long range view of lane markings
Then I put a 5000 on one side and 6 on the other on my car to really test them
Side by side its hands down = 5000k is better to see with

the car came with 4300k,,most cars come with 4300
except certain high end= way better than our hid systems
may run higher
