Stock exhaust vs. stock w/resonator removed (video comparison inside)

Did a short comparison video of before and after the resonator removal. You can't tell much of a difference in the video (or at least not on the crappy speakers I have), but it is noticable while driving the car.

I couldn't find a good clip of a 350z or g35 to add in, if anyone knows of a good clip similar to the ones I posted, let me know and I'll add it at the end of my video for a reference.

Enjoy

Sounds nice before and after

I did hear the difference though, sounds sweet. Without the resonator it has a low, throaty rumble.

one question, is the TL-S exhaust the exact same as the TL-P exhaust?

You only took out the resonator.....would it sound the same if I took out just the mid muffler and not the resonator? or both? I did hear a difference tho.

I imagine that each is responsible for overall quieting of the exhaust, and possibly each is specifically targeted at quieting a certain RPM range. For instance, say the resonator that I removed quiets the 3000-4500 RPM range more effectively than the mid muffler, and the mid muffler quiets the 1500-3000 RPM range more effectively. Put them together, and the whole lower RPM range is covered. If you remove both, I'd imagine you get a little more sound overall, as well as significantly more sound in the lower RPM range (I say this because I notice a larger increase in sound above 3000 RPM after removing the resonator).

I could be completely wrong about the above statement, as I have no data to prove anything. Purely assumptions.

In that case I would only want to remove the "3000-4500 RPM" range one since I don't want to hear droning when idling or traveling at low rpms.

Thanks very much for the vid, bigdo26! Really helps me in deciding on whether or not to remove the resonator.

Just to confirm - speaking downstream of the cat, did you remove the first piece (I'll call it the resonator) or the second piece (I'll call it the mid-muffler)?

Thanks!

Can't really hear the difference. Like the OP said, much more noticeable in person.

Glad I could help some!

The 1st piece after the cat, the one that looks more like a resonator than a muffler (round, not oval).

Removing the resonator is ricey? Can't say I agree with that... sound is really just an amplified version of the stock exhaust.

I could see this relation between the resonator and the mid muffler. It's probably just like when the intake resonator is removed. It's quiet when idle and low RPM and the sound gets louder on the higher RPM range.

When I do my car, I'm going to remove both.

I noticed you have xs headers....if you have stock headers do you still get that g35ish rumble? or would i have to get headers too?

you will still get it. removing both resonators will make the sound better though

I'm surprised how good the stock TL-S exhaust sounds. My friends have driven away in my car and I don't remember it sounding that good, but they weren't on it though.

I still want to get a Comptech axle back.

Cool video.

Cool video.
My past 2 cars (the TL now, and my 02 Maxima) I think sound better keeping the stock mufflers and modifying the exhaust upstream, i.e. removing resonators and such. My Maxima had an aftermarket muffler on it for a couple years, then I finally put back on the stock muffler with straight pipe up to the y-pipe (no cat, just the pre-cats). It sounded way better with the stock muffler and straight pipe. Have heard a bunch of Maximas and a couple TLs with full aftermarket cat-backs/axle-backs and I don't think they sound as good as when the stock mufflers are kept.

Personal preference of course though.

And thanks, I like making these comparison videos
