I was following the DIY here to fix my stuck cd trays giving me code ERE1. In the process I noticed a small torn ribbon cable. I don't think I'll be able to fix it and am not sure if it will work.

Does anyone know if I get a replacement head unit off of ebay or junk yard and use my original faceplace if my security code will work? or will I need to get a new code?

each radio has its own serial number and security code
it was to cut down on theft,,and few TLs lose the radio!

if buying used make sure it has the right code with it, and get proof of purchase
so no issues if you have to go to dealer for the code

may be easier to get a different brand of radio,,see audio section for help
on matching the existing speaker setup with the amps etc

 

thanks. also do you know if head units from car with factory navigation will work on my car that doesn't?

 

I think its navi units work in non navi cars, but the non navi unit doesn't work in a navi car



Also I'm pretty sure there is some differences between the different years of the tl and cl radio.




I would just go aftermarket and call it a day, $10-15 for a harness, $10-20 for dash kit, and whatever radio you choose
