steering feel of TL
I read so much about how the BMW's steering feels so precise and gives you great feedback and whatnot. What I would like to know is how the TL's steering feels comparative to BMW and to others. Can anyone who've been in both please give their thoughts?

That's why it's the "Ultimate driving machine".. BMW'S are known for it's steering feel and handling... I think my father's big a$$ 740 handle's better than my TL! At least it feels that way..

Understeer and oversteer have nothing to do with steering feel, which, BTW, I prefer the BMW feel to anyone else's. Furthermore, the 5-series has the best ride of any car IMO.
As for oversteer and understeer - over is where the rear end slides out during cornering, and under is where the front wheels slide and 'push' during cornering. These two phenomena are used to describe handling at and beyond the limit of adhesion, and not everyday handling which is more or less neutral.
To experience severe oversteer, drive my RX-7 in the rain and give it some gas during a turn!

I don't know about you, but my TL's steering feels kindof loose. I have to turn the wheel a whole lot just to make the car turn. Even my mom's accord has a tighter feel. Weird, b/c they should be built on the same platform.

Botom line... the TL will never handle like the BMW. Be happy with what you got. It was not intended to handle like a BMW even wieth Spings, Sways, and bigger tires. I was personally happy with the feel although it didn't come close to the BMW handling. You paid under $30K so what do you expect...

The terms understeer/oversteer are words used to describe the handleing characteristics of a vehicle during cornering. It has nothing to do with the power steering. FWD cars are more prone to understeer and RWD to oversteer whereas the 3-series BMW's are at a 51%F/49%R (or so)weight distribution giving the car a neutral feeling which is one of the reasons why it ranks so high in handleing.
