Starting Problem
Starting Problem
I have read many of post and the response makes a lot of sense. However, My '00 tl starts but it does not necessary catch as well as it should. My key ring consist of my Exxon easy pass and my key only. I don't know it this will make a difference. I have called Acura is regards to the ignition swith recall. My car is not include in this recall. The tempeture in Washington, DC is very cold. I have owned only Honda Co. products, I previous has two accords and never experienced this before. Could there be a problem w/my ignition switch or my key ring? The car starts, but not as fast as I would hope. Should I purchase a heat blocker for the car?
Well I am also here in Washington D.C. in the N.W. section of the city. I also own a 2000 TL & have done so for almost 3years now. I also have owned only new HONDA MOTOR COMPANY products over the past 22yrs. The last 2 cars before the TL were 1990 ACCORD LX SEDAN 5speed & 1994 ACCORD EX SEDAN 5speed.
But I have not had any problems with the TL starting since I have owned it. Are you sure the car was full of gas? If it was down near the empty mark the TL will have a hard time starting when its cold. My car sits parked outside in my backyard as I do not have a garage. The car started & reved a little higher for only a few seconds the other mourning as our temp was only 18 degrees at 6:00AM. The car then ran like normal & it had a half a tank of gas. I then got about 6 gal of gas to get it near the full mark. This was WED morning as I was getting ready for Thursdays snow. I also went to get my winter snow tires put on that morning also.I always turn the key to the ON position for a few seconds before turning it to the starting positon. This is something that some of us on here have done over the past few years. I only have 2 house door keys & a small car cover lock key that I use in spring & summer time along with my Clifford Alarm remote. I also have the original ACURA key ring with the car key I got when I purchased the car. Tonight it will be very cold, down in the teens once again & I will get out early in the morning.

FTM-1, thanks for the response. I never turn the key to the on position, then to the start position. I will try that this afternoon. My tank is half full.
What are your thoughts about the Acura transmissions? I had a 99 Honda EX-V6, that I traded for my TL. I never had any problems w/my accord transmission, and that was my second accord. I am a believer in having my cars serviced my the dealership. I understand cost may be more, but I feel more comfortable w/the dealerships. Have you heard of Far East Motors in Silver spring?
Your TL is identical to mine w/o navigation. Black is not my favorite color. Black is too difficult to keep clean. I am a fanatic about keeping my car clean. I keep my TL parked in front of my house. During the snow storm, I kept it in the backyard. How do you manage to have 45% tint on your car in DC? I would like tint as well, after I take it through inspection I will install tint, probably 35% all around. Who did your tint? Which Acura dealership do you use? I purchased mine from Radley in Baileys Crossroads, too far to drive for service. I miss Euromotors Acura dealership, the service was excellent. I'm glad to see that Chevy Chase Acura is in existance.
Thanks again for the info.

I purchased my TL from Rosenthal ACURA in Gaithersburg.
Euro Motor Cars stoped selling ACURA after I had already gave them a 1,000 check to get a 2000 model. The sales person said he was going to work at Rosenthal & would I mine going to them since Euro was not selling ACURA any more. I did this & have always got service done out there. Yes I know about FAR EAST Motors in Silver Spring. I had service done to my 94 ACCORD done there a few times. I had a few oil changes & fuel injection cleaning on that car done. The person that owns the shop John knows me well. He as well as a few other guys there worked for SPORT HONDA & the old Wilson HONDA DEALERSHIP. John use to work on my 1980 PRELUDE & 1990 ACCORD at Wilson when I purchased each car new from that DEALERSHIP. I also got the 94 ACCORD there when they moved the DEALERSHIP out to RT 29 AUTO SALES PARK.
I have not got any work done on the TL there because I feel the dealship might be a little more up to speed on a the TL. I could get an oil change done there but I always go to the dealership.
Iam not sure about the tranny issue & this is my 1st automatic car that I have purchased. Mine is doing okay I have low mileage for a car soon to be 3yrs old. I only have 29,500 & its mosly highway miles.I got my extended warranty on the transmission the oter day in the mail.

The 45% Tint I have only on the 4 door windows.
The back rear glass I have 51% this is so I don't have to take it off to pass D.C. inspection. The side windows I just took it off & went thru Inspection last April of 2002. I got the car Re- tinted after I passed inspection. I had the original aftermarket 51% tint done when the car was new at Ziebart Tidy Car 3yrs ago. The police will not mess with you in D.C. for this little amout of tint. I wanted the 35% but that would be taken a risk in D.C. & would be a large contrast to the rear glass that I did not wan't to take off to pass inspection or mess up rear defroster. It will be another 2yrs untill I go thru inspection again. I also now will put the rear sunshade that some other members have installed in the rear window.
