Starter Issue

Car would not start until I tapped the starter with a hammer. So replace the starter since it must have a dead spot in it? Wires are good to go.

I assume by your statement, you verified that the connections are tight and are making proper electrical connections.

Generally speaking, if your starter resumes cranking after a few light taps on the starter body, the starter is bad. Could be a dead spot. Could be worn brushes/weak springs. Could be bad contacts inside the solenoid.

Not too big of a job getting the starter out.
