Squeaks Front Suspension

Ok, this noise has become more pronounced over the last few weeks. I hears major squeaking kind of like wet sneakers on a ceramic floor comming when I drive over small bumps at slow speeds.

Took it into a local tire shop that deals with suspension and brakes and he told me I need to lube up my joints and stuff. Now when I push down on the front of my car, both front sides make the noise however the squeaking is more pronounced on the front passenger side.

I have 56k miles on my car and out of warranty. Is it the ball joints, bushings or shocks? Help.

hmmmm, i have only been under my TL a handful of times and never seen any zerk points for grease to be applied. i know no one will agree with me at all but it could be the struts going or the bushings inbetween, maybe someone can chime in with more knowledge. also if he knew to grease the joints, and could, why didn't he do it?

one of the shocks? or a swaybar endlink Can you reproduce it by bouncing the front of the car by hand?

My TL started squeaking on the front drivers side too! I can hear it even if I push the front down with my hands. I did a search on this forum and noticed similar cases where people had to replace the ball joint.

You can get a can of WD-40 and start spraying it on different parts. Have someone press the car up and down until you can single out the offending part. When the noise goes away on changes, voilla! thats the problem

Elegant Type-S, does it squeak on a wet day ? If not, then it's not a lubrication or dry bushing problem.

First thing to do is find out whats causing the squeek. Is it a rubber bushing or the shock. if its the shock where on it is causing it? is it a bushing on top or the shock itself. The key is to spend a little time trying to isolate it. It also may be the soil rubbing on itself as it gets compressed. With out hearing it in person its kinda hard to say

Well here's an update, the squeaking now is audible even when I turn the wheels in park or when creeping. Im leaning towards ball joints at this point.

yep... same thing is happening to mee, too at the back...
I lowered mine about 45,000 miles ago... and I have 100 miles left before the warranty ends...
Do you guys think the dealer would fix it, even though the car was lowered..?

You know what is funny, after you mention this. I have this problem as well. Its my front driver side though and when I push down on the passenger side, there is a squeak but I think it is coming from the driver side.

Id suggest you get someone to turn the wheel for you so you can try to isolate it. Maybe see if it will do it while jacked up so you dont have to have teh engine running to creat more noise

I took it to a shop today and the mechanic put it on the lift and checked out both ball joints, upper and lower, and stated that "there was no play in the ball joints and no holes in the boot" so therefore he's not sure if it is the ball joint or not. He said it is very possible that the grease in the joint has dried up inside/lost its lubricating properties causing the noise. He doesn't think its the struts, but can't guarantee the ball joints would resolve the problem.

I'm almost certain it is, since it is occuring when I turn my wheels too. Now I called up Acura to get a price on parts and they all tell me that the ball joint isn't sold seperately and you have to by the entire arm with knuck which is about $300 each!! I can get ball joints sperately aftermarket but what is your take and what should I do?

Ouch Elegant. I hope to go to the dealer and see what the issue will be. Those bastards better cover it under warranty.

The local shop here wants $125 for labor to press it out and install it. Seems kind of high to me, can anyone advise? I was also advised to go with the brand Moog.

Dude just go to another Dealer... they probably would just replace it for you and won't play games. Valley Stream Acura is the worst when it comes to warranty repairs. Not to mention there service writers and reps are very unprofessional compared to other Acura Dealers in the area.

There was 2 brands for oem replacement from where I bought mine. There were no moog. I bought the japanese, the more expensive one. $125 is about what I paid for install. I actually paid 55.40 for bouth ball joints shipped!

Island Acura in Wantagh really is good!! They took me in today on a moments notice just to diagnose the problem and it was lower ball joint. Now I feel comfortable replacing it, I think I'm going to call up my local Sears to see what they will charge.

What I need someone to tell me is if I need to get a wheel alignment after this or not?

squeeks

I had this on my 2000TL last summer, previous posts suggested lubing the rubber bushings - I took off the wheels and sprayed them - it took a few days for the lube to work into the rubber but I have not had a probleme since.
I would have to check the can, but I think I used lithium grease.

Well mine was diagnosed as the ball joint, and it seems to act up more in colder weather. I am getting it replaced at Sears and for those of you interested its pretty much the cheapest I could find.

Moog Ball joint : $56 Labor: $70 Total w/Tax (NY) : $136 ( Only One Side)

Can someone clarify whether this "ball joint" is the same part you would replace if you were to get a camber kit? If that's the case, since I'm lowered on h&r sports, i minus well get the ingalls camber kit since my camber is -1.1 on my left front and right. Anyone want to confirm this?

*Why do these ball joints wear out?

I was getting confused when everyone refers to it as "lower ball joint", is there a upper ball joint?

is it neccessary to replace the knuckle?

btw, mine are squeaking too. Thanks.

Ok, I found out what the upper ball joints are. They appear easy to replace. That may not be the case for the lower ones. Can someone point me out where the lower ball joints are on acuraoemparts.com. I notice everyone says labor is high on the lower ball joints.
