Squeak free... well almost!!!

OK - I spent like 3 hours cleaning and hunting down the squeaks and rattles in my TL. I got them all, including the subwoofer rattle, except for one. The Armrest moves and rattles. Its just the top piece where the leather is. The thing moves from side to side. I checked underneath the lid, and there are 4 screws at the bottom, 2 were out, and a third was almost out. I tightened those up, but it didn't solve the problem. Can anyone relate to this, and if so, have any solutions????

I have the same problem. I read on a past post that they put teflon tape on the surfaces that met, since this is the problem. The rubber feet aren't high enough so plastic is rubbing against plastic. I haven't had time to do anything about it yet, but this advice might be a good direction to follow.

yeah right.... squeaks and rattles can never be fixed, I gave up a while ago... it gave me a lot of stress and frustration... as soon as I fix one, something else comes up..... or at one point it seems solid, but then temperature changes and something else comes up...... bottom line, when you hit a hard bump something will tick/squeak slightly no matter what. start ignoring this sh*t, or you won't sleep well at night.
i heard BMW supposed to be much more solid, but with everything else it will rattle more or less....

I only had one squeak bothering me, the sunroof. When I took it to the dealer for inspection and an oil change I totally forgot to tell them about the squeak, but when I picked it up they had just fixed it anyway, i was surprised because i hadnt had the best service up to that point

Funny thing, is that I have never noticed any kind of squeak whatsoever. I bought my 99 TL used, so maybe someone already had it done. Never noticed any squeaks.

Maybe you don't hear what I hear, or maybe you don;t consider them rattles.... You really need to go through big bumps when your whole car vibrates... then I bet you will hear occasional clicking/ticking sound here and there... all TL/CL care like that, I don't belive you are an exception. This gets worse especially if you have Type S suspension.

Same problem here, i just tightend the screws but i still had it... so i took the entire thing apart, turned out one of the plastic pieces that guide it when it moves forward and backward had came unglued. so it was rattling inside.

Yea.... thats what I determined the problem to be too. So I havn't found a solution to it, but it seems to have gotten a little better. I actually took the top of the armrest off and put some dry sponge on it to help cushion it, and that seems to have helped somewhat... but there is still a noticeable sound when I go around corners, or over the sinkhole that has developed on my road!
