Springs without the Camber?
Just got a used '99 TL... want to get rid of some of the gap in the wells w/ lowering springs, but don't want to deal w/ the camber it might cause... Can anyone suggest a brand/model of lowering springs that will lower the car, even just a little, without affecting the camber? Thanks!
Comptech

you don't need a camber adjustment with Comptech springs.

But you don't need to put the camber kit on the car.. An alignment is always recommended when you modify your suspension in any way..

I got my Comptech springs put on last week and took it in to get aligned by a pro body shop today. they called me up earlier and *****ed me out. said my car was out of alignment and the camber on both front and rear is way off and there is no way to put the camber in specs. what the hell is that? should i get a second opinion on the alignment or should i just get a camber kit? who out there has a camber kit?? pls help......

Does anyone else have a bad camber/alignment experience they would like to share, and the solution that came about??? I simply want to get rid of SOME of the Madonna-like gaps in my fenders, without having to worry about camber kits and grossly uneven tire wear... it seems most everyone doesn't have this problem, but i'm sure it's out there... please speak up ppl... Thanks!!!
I can assure you that everyone here with Comptech springs will not have camber problems. If you're looking for people with mild drops, +/- 2 inches, that have problems, you may be looking for a while.
Comptech springs will not give you camber problems.

Trust us, you don't need a camber kit with a drop less than 2 inches, but check your tire wear periodically just to stay on top if any problems should arise.

My car is dropped more than 2 inches on Ground Control and I don't need a camber kit. The alignment guy said my camber is only off 1 degree or something and is perfect for a lowered car and don't need no kits, nothing!

TLBaller: I have a 2000, I'm pretty sure they have an application for the 1st gen, check them out at www.groundcontrol.com. I have to jack up the car to adjust the height, but it's not hard at all! hope this helps.
i heard you guys say over and over again.. dont need a camber kit with Comptech springs.
i got my car back from the alignment shop. it pulls like a biatch to the right. the camber is off on the rear, both left and right. the tech told me there is no further adjustment possible without adding a camber kit. i will scan the spec. sheet and post it in a bit.

If you have springs, it definitely sounds like something was not done righton the install. After my springs were installed there was absolutely no change in the pull and the camber difference is barely noticable unless you REALLY look close.
I now have a problem with the car pulling to the right, but it's a problem with my new tires. Did you do anything with your tires? Even rotating them, if there is uneven wear, will cause the car to pull.

you could have a toe problem rather than a camber problem. It could be the tires. Or it could be camber. The alignment shop should be able to fix it. It may seem strange, but there really is a right and wrong way to install springs. I have no idea either way. I had mine installed by a buddy that does it for kicks. My GS-R dropped nearly 3 inches, sent it to the alignment shop and it came back with proper toe, and a slight negative camber. I still manange to get 50k miles out of the stock tires before switching to Toyo Proxis'. These lasted another 40K. I have 110K on the car now, and the tires look great...but the springs are sagging and it droped another .5 inch.
My cousin on the other hand took his civic to one of "those" shops, had the same brand and model of springs installed, and his came back with so much negative camber that he got less than 10k miles on the car before the tread delaminated and seperated from the rest of the casing.
All I can say, is that you should take it to a good alignment shop, if they can't get it close to spec (close...cuz it will never be perfect) such that it it no longer pulls in either direction, you should take it back to the shop that dropped your car and have them re-install them.

Veloce,
You've got an unusual case of camber trouble with the comptech springs. Comptech does have camber correction kits available and there are a few available on autocarparts.com
I have a 99 with comptech springs without camber kit.
