spring installation

I just bought some H&R springs.....I want to get them installed, anyone know of a good place in michigan...also what is a good price to pay to get them installed?

I talked to this one mechanic and he was saying about $300 which I thought was really expensive. He was saying he had to take the front and rear struts off to put the new springs on....is he right? Any help?

Thanks in advance.

300 is alot.

for him to install them. he has ot remove the springs and structs as a whole/ then compress the new spring onto the shock. its hard but time consuming. he doesnt really have to take apart the shock so its not to much time.

should take 2 hours for him since he has a lift and its only the springs.

thats my sugguestion.

i just had my springs and shocks installed from mp3coupe in jersey. to bad u dont live around here.

140 without aligment is a good price, or somewhere in that range.

funny how everyone EXPECTS spring swap to be around 100 to 200...

spring swaps are time consuming and tedious work.

Come to San Jose

If you come to California, I can get them done for $100, at a local body shop, they let me watch and they did a great job. Took them almost 2 hours, they should of charged $150 - $200.

Talk to them about doing another car of mine (Jetta III) and only charges $100.

How have you been, man?

I'm thinking about getting the Sport springs, too. My friend has all the tools (except for spring compressors, which can be borrowed from AutoZone for free) and he said he would help me out. If you want, we could do both of our cars at the same time. Well, assuming I get the springs soon.

Yeah, I'll let you know.

By the way, where did you get the springs from? How much did you pay total, if you don't mind me asking?

What's your AIM screen name, if you use it? Mine's GrandPrixC. Shoot me an IM.

Takes about 2-3 hours to do. I got my H&R done for $100 and my Teins for $100 at two different places in So. Cal. Alignment around $40-60, for 4 wheel, never 2 wheel. 300 is WAY TO much, even 200 is pushing it. i would pay no more than $150

why doesnt anyone mention that it is also DANGEROUS! yep, when they are being compressed, there is the possibility of being done wrong and having the spring pop off and kill someone (there is enough force to take your head off, no joke)

so if ur a penny pincher and want to do it urself(not directed at anyone in particular), then u better know what you are doing, like me

systek , no offense but its not Dangerous at all, i have ZERO experience and i compressed it myself. its only dangerous if u are drunk and want to try and kill urself. anything can be dangerous. even a pen if u poke urself in the eye. =)

if u take ur time and compress and uncompress the spring with the CORRECT tools. you should have no problem just dont rush.

nick, i understand this. most ppl take for granted the lethality of a pen. reading these threads on how to's, ppl usually forget to mention what can happen if things are done incorrectly. ppl usually laugh when accidents happen where no one is injured. thats fine and dandy, but the hazards remain, and i felt this is one that especially needed mentioning.

happy trails

as of today, i understand you. my friend was compressing a spring and he didnt care about being patient and was laughing. he wanted to remove the nut without compressing the spring all the way.
i guess some people just gotta learn. hopefully no1 injures themselves.
