Sport Shifting: De-accelerating

While slowing down, say like you're in 5th gear (or whatever gear), and slowing down to a stop, do you down shift or just let the computer takes over and downshift for you? What is the best way to do it (downshift yourself or not) ?

Just let the computer downshift for you. if you start downshifting you will put more strain on the engine by highering the rpms. just the computer do it. it feels smoother.

I do it myself. If you downshift you do put a larger strain on the tranny but you do the same thing when you upshift at a higher RPM. If you're worried about the strain and are upshifting at the same RPMs as when you're in auto what's the point? Besides Honda added the auto downshift feature so if you forget and decelerate and then accelerate you won't bog the car b/c you're in too high a gear...it's one of the many idiot feature we have.

I use both methods! When I'm paying attention I'll downshift my SS manually. If I come to a stop and I forget I'm in SS-mode, then the car does it for me. Gotta love that "idiot" downshift feature!

I wish the idiot feature wasn't there, like on the G35, total control, and none of the stupid shift out of first for you either. If your forget or your an idiot, just leave it in Drive and go on with your day. :P
