I was wondering if anyone knows if the new 2002 TLS has a govenor on the odometer? I can't seem to get it to go past 115 anyone got an info they wanana share?

 

You gotta be kidding me, right? I have gone up to 122 mph just in 3rd gear using SS in my 99 TL. I heard our cars can get up to at least 149 mph (due to the stock tires). But with mods, I am pretty sure you can go past 149 mph.

BTW, what do you mean you can't get it to go past 115 mph? Does your car stop pulling after 115 or does it just stay at 115 and not go any further (kind of like stalling at 115)? If that's the case, I would take it back to the dealer to get it checked out.

The TL's speed is electronically limited to 149 MPH.

yep.. take it to the dealer. I get up to 130 easy.

 

If I had to guess, I'd say you're not using 3rd gear long enough. If you're not completely flooring the gas pedal then the car is probably shifting into 4th (and maybe even 5th) by 85 or 90mph. Those gears are overdrive gears and have very little pulling power. It may only seem like it's not going past 115 since it's taking forever to get there. Stand on it and/or manually shift using SS to keep it in 3rd for as long as possible.

Try flooring with out ss. see what happens.

I got up to 147 mph on Rt. 280 after midnight when there are no cars around.

You might wanna try the GSP close to the NY border. I always open up there and hardly any cops. People race there every Sunday night.

THAT would be my boy Ken2000Ac...and he's already been flamed for not wearing the seatbelt!! Last time I rode with him, we did 120 with 4 people in the car and later got pulled for doing 60 in a 35 (New Year's)...but all's well, the cop was in a REALLY good mood and let us go (that was a FIRST!!)

 

Well not getting the car past 115 really doesn't bother me its the part where I know something is wrong, so today the TLS is spending its first day at the dealer repair, lets see how long it takes before I get it back. In the mean time I am enjoying another TLS that is on "loan" until mines done. lol and yes this one can go faster then 115 by far. And no I didn't walk into the dealership and tell them that I couldn't get the car past 115. I'll have to do alittle test when I get it back and give you my results.

Rt 280 is off of exit 145 on the GSP (north and south).

 

he's probably on the 5th gear when around 110-115...

I was driving 125.....and on 5th...it took forever to pull....it's like not moving up at all....then i shift to 4th..it pulled hard...and took me fast to 138...and kept on going..but i slowed down..

he's probably in the 5th when going 115

Just spoke with my man in NY yesterday. Container ship arrived a week ago and they are in the manufacturing process of being chromed. After that they still have to be sent back to be bored out to TL's custom specs, and then they'll be shipped to me.

I've already been waiting a month...est time of arrival on them will be very early February. When I get 'em on....I'll take them pics fa sho.

 

may be we can hook up sometime and just go crusing over 130mph!!!=)

new top speed for me!! 145mph!=D though i wish the road was more smooth without lil swerves and curves!!i was at 145 and then went airborn a bit making a lil curve to the left and heard the tires squel so i had to let off..it was fun!

Acura was showing 142 mph at this point versus 135.3mph on gps, so there is about 6 mph speedo error
Accomplished here:

I had 3 passengers in the car and had to slow down as passengers in the back got scared
TL was still pulling.

 

hey guys I got my TLS back and guess what I hit 125 easy the damn thing was still picking up speed but traffic was coming so i hadda slow down this car is the ****. Acura dealer said that their was something with the transmission that I don't understand but hey it works great and thanks for the info on using the SS its awsome truuuu

sure! im ordering my parts tonight so by next week i'll install some of the things and remove my trac/speed limiter!
so tell me the directions to a road where it is smooth and no cops and no cars where we can do 180mph+!!=)
