Red face Speakers...

Haven't had too much luck in the Audio/Video forum, so I was hoping maybe someone on here can help me out.

I'm looking to get some new speakers for my front doors, and everything I have found, Crutchfield says will not fit, I've tried a bunch of 5 1/4" and 6 1/2" speakers...I'm assuming it might have something to do with the mounting depth, but I've read posts where people have gotten speakers with depths up to 2 1/4" and the speakers i'm looking at are only 2"

So basically, I'm hoping some of you with a 2nd Gen can chime in and let me know what you are running in your front doors. And if anyone knows anything about speakers, whats the difference between top mount depth and bottom mount depth...I didn't really understand it when I looked it up...it seems like the same thing.

.....by the way, I'm lookin at some Kicker KS60's if anyone has any input on those...

Try a different site like circuitcity.com or some other place that sells car audio. Most of them have a car application guide. It could be that Crutchfield has incorrect information. As for top mount depth/bottom mount depth, it's exactly how it sounds. Top mount depth is the depth of the speaker when the rim or flange or whatever is mounted on the top of the mounting surface. Bottom mount depth is when it is mounted to the bottom or underneath the mounting surface. This would cause the speaker to extend further into the mounting hole.

i have a set of polk db5251 components, you should be able to fit MOST 5 1/4 and some 6 1/2 depending on the back magnet size.

If you are looking for speakers that are loud and pretty good for the price try http://cardiscountstereos.com/ They have everything that you need for audio/video. Those speakers might be some brands that you never heard of but they are awesome. I got my front speakers from there and they are amazing. I only wish that I had bought my back speakers from there to because it would of saved me a lot of money. Good luck.

2 inch clearance should be fine. When I measured it with window down I think it was around that. Either way you will need a spacer you don't want to seat the speakers directly on the sheet metal. Many 6 1/2s require you to trim the speaker hole as the stock speakers don't really have a huge magnet or anything. If you got any questions let me know.

^ what he said. I have the Alpine type-r 6 1/2 comps front and back and had to enlarge the speaker hole and fabricate a spacer. Our doors are really shallow so you're limited in selection.
