I would get 1 coil pack and replace the one you dropped first. Reset the ECU and see if the problem goes away. If not place the old coil pack back on and move to the next cyl and repeat till you finds the problem one.

OK, so I reset the CEL, then switched up the plugs one by one and the CEL hasn't come back but the car still idles like crap. The CEL came on immediately last night when I started it back up after replacing all the plugs, wouldn't it come right back after resetting it if the proble, was still there?

I misread ECU as CEL, I actually did disconnect the battery to reset the ECU right before I came in and read your post...ESP???

I reset the ECU and it still idles badly, but the CEL hasn't come back either.

try a idle learn.

1. Make sure ALL electrical items (A/C, audio, rear window defoger, lights, etc..) are off.

2. Start the engine and hold it at 3,000 RPM with no load (in park or neutral) until the radiator fan comes on, or until engine coolant temperature reaches 194 deg F

3. Let the engine idle for about 5 min with the throttle fully closed
NOTE: If the radiator fan comes on, do not include its running time in the 5 minutes

It still idled wrong, I replaced the front 3 plugs with the old ones and it doesn't feel like its going to stall, seems to run fine. I'll get 3 new plugs and see if that fixes it. Thanks for all your help.

I am confused

Why not replace the 1 plug that was dropped- surely damaging it
Then buy 1 coil pack- first try it on the one that was dropped
If that doesnt fix it- go to each cylinder trying the new coilk pack on it till it runs better
You have found the bad coil
Its normal to throw the multi coil code when you only need one
Put the good new plugs back in (except replace the dropped plug)

Yeah, the CEL came back, it's got to be a coil pack. I'll pick one up on Monday.

thats what i said. If you just replaced your plugs and you dropped a coilpack and your having a misfire code, its a coilpack. Get a new one and follow my directions that i posted

^haha, true, true. Of course it's probably a bad idea to argue with someone with 33k posts as well.

Does it hurt the car to drive with a misfire/bad coil pack?

Yes-
any misfire means a cylinder is blowing unburned gas into the exhaust- which gets read by the O2 sensors as a problem, so they tell the computer to ......
To the parts store immediatly-

Put off the fix for a week while driving- go ahead- the parts store staff appreciates a good sale!

Talking

I stopped at AutoZone and picked up the NGK OEM Plat. plugs for $9.98 a piece. ($63.00 with tax) My 1999TL had 82k miles on it and I have noticed a little hesitation going up steeper hills. Figured that considering the car will be 9 years old in Nov. 2007 it couldn't hurt to change them. Was easy=after reading the forums it took me 45 mins. I had a new spark plug socket so the installation went well.

The car does run better now. Pulling up a steep hill on my way home, the car use to shift down to 3rd gear. It now stays in 4th. It also purrs up to 5/6 grand a little smoother. I reset the ICU also by pulling the dome light fuse. Changing the pulgs should also help out on gas mileage. Have noted a little drop in mileage lately.

Since there is a noticeable difference in smoothness and better aceleration, it must have been time to replace them even though the car wasn't up to 100k. Just my 2 cents.

Its not the dome light fuse you pull. Its the Clock Backup fuse

I'm trying not to drive at all, Autozone sells a Duralast coil pack and they're right down the street. I don't have the money for dealer parts and I can't wait for shipping, so the Duralast will have to do for now. I'll change it to OEM as soon as I get some cash.

I seafoamed my car, did the process that acurazine.com advises. Drove the car. Got a CEL. Then I replaced the plugs. CEL is still there. What is it and how do I reset the CEL? I think it has something to do with the 02 sensor.

Edit: I did not drop the coil pack.

Did you drive it like a madman for 15-20 minmutes?
CEL Check Engine Light
It will usually clear itself as the gook burns off- but if you really had
bad looking plugs when you changed them, give it 2 or 3 days

See above post regarding "clock backup fuse" that holds power to the cars computer-
pull it and everything resets

Everything seems to be back in order. I got a new coil pack this morning and replaced the one I dropped, but that was not the bad pack(go figure) so I started replacing the front ones one at a time, and wouldn't you know it was the last one that was bad. It started idling better immediately. I reset the CEL and took it to an Acura/Honda specialist down the street to look at it and he said it was fine, and the CEL hasn't come back, runs so smooth. Thanks all for your help, thank god I don't have to do this for another 100k. As a consolation, at least I can get to the rear packs pretty quickly now, only took like 10 minutes this morning.

Did the same thing and had the same issue. After driving the car around again for 20 more minutes I pulled the backup clock fuse (to reset the CEL) and changed the spark plugs (they were fouled) and problem fixed.
