solution for improved handling?

I took a trip to Mt. High ski resort today in my Type S via the Angeles Crest/Mt. Emma/Ft. Tejon shortcut. To anyone who has taken this road you know its quite a drive, rising from sea level to 6000 FT - with twisties and hair pin bends that will bring a Porsche or Ferrari into its element

Was quite disappointed with the performance of the Type S primarily with the understeer. At one point I took a tight curve at a moderate speed (which I've taken many times in an Audi S4 without problems) and the car skidded into a turnout (what? I thought VSA is supposed to prevent this?)

So my point is - what are the most important aspects of this car that are adversely affecting its performance - is it the FWD? Its length or is it the narrow tires?

Get Comptech Sway Bars and maybe some better tires/springs.

S4s have AWD. That makes a huge difference.

The best mod you can do to improve the handling is lowering springs. By lowering the center of gravity and stiffer springs, you should see a big improvements in handling. Next should be better tires, then sway bars.

You can't really compare your Type S to the S4, they are not even in the same league.
