Angry Soft Exterior

I have a black 2002 TL and it seems if the wind blows right I get a nice scratch on the black paint. The scratches appear to be white at their depths. Is this actually below the layer of black paint? I find it hard to believe because the scratches come so easily and lightly. I have tried to rub one out with no success. What is the deal? Older cars could be tapped with a hammer with no effect to the paint while this one is untouchable.

it sucks.......i must have 100 different scratches on my car. got it buffed the other day by professionals and now it seems that i ahve some swirls. the paint just isnt very durable. my mom's 93 lexus ls400's paint still looks perfect and it is 6 years older than my car.

That's modern day paint processes for ya! They just don't do it like they used to. There is not only a drastic difference in the amount of layers they apply, but also in the paint itself!

It sounds more likely that it's your clearcoat that's got the scratches instead of the paint.
