Not trying to change the subject but why not put one of those scanners that flash behing the mirror or on the dash? I had one installed to let me know if my doors are locked. Sometime I go in the house and can't remember if I locked the door. Now I just look out the wiindow and see the blue light flashing. It comes off when you turn on the car.

If anyone has done this let me know because the guy who put it in told me that it works that way because of the factory alarm. I want it to work like an aftermarket one where it only comes on when I lock the door not when the power is off.

I could be down with trying this too. A brighter/more noticeable light might also deter would be thieves too.

Technically, the door light could possibly work. I wonder how it blinks though. Do you think the power is pulsed through the lines, or would that light on the door have some sort of modulator behind the door panel that causes it to blink?

Interesting thought, I'd like to know more. I'll do this next week if you come up with anything - or if someone knows more about that red blinking door light by the lock.

Okay, so there IS a programmable feature for the remote to chirp/honk. Now, the 1999's ONLY Honk. The 2000 and up are supposed to chirp. If it does NOT chirp, your system is not programmed properly. I have all the service bulletins printed out at home, and I don't have access to them at work, so I will look when I get home on Wednesday (unless someone has the SB for the keyless transmitter). I remember seeing this in one of the bulletins.

It's just a simple process of turning the key a few times and this that and the other. If no one can find the service bulletin, I will scan it in or type it up on Wednesday when I get home from work!

I found this on another forum but I havent tried it yet because its in the basement.

"This is from Acura TSB 97-040. I know this works for all the RLs up to 2004, and I believe it works for the later ones as well.

Turning the Audible Chirp On/Off

To turn the audible chirp off and on, press and hold the “Trunk Release” button, then immediately press and hold the “Lock” button. The LED on the transmitter blinks once to indicate on or twice to indicate off."

Are you able to test to see if you can infact turn on/off the chirp ?

By doing "To turn the audible chirp off and on, press and hold the “Trunk Release” button, then immediately press and hold the “Lock” button. The LED on the transmitter blinks once to indicate on or twice to indicate off"

Theres also.

Turning the Audible Chirp On/Off
1. Open the driver’s door, then insert the key in the
driver’s door lock.
2. Turn the key to the “Lock” position, then to the
“Unlock” position. Repeat this two more times.
(Complete this procedure within 10 seconds.)
3. Within 10 seconds, close and open the door two
times.
4. Within 10 seconds, turn the key to the “Lock”
position, and then to the “Unlock” position, three
times. Close and open the door once. Verify that
the power door locks cycle once to confirm that the
chirp has been turned on/off.

Yeah those sound about right for the procedures! Sorry I'm not at home to verify. I'm in Portland right now on a layover.

Check it out and see if it works! If it doesn't, I will check my notes and books when I get home.

As posted by me once or twice before in similar threads, the device that makes the noise for the 2000-2003 is behind the fender liner in the passenger fender.

You can also buy similar devices from radio shack and on line. My buddy has installed a few in his maximas that didnt have it.

If the car isnt wired for it you WILL need to wire it up as the wiring for it isnt going to be there. If it was it would have the device.

hey Eddystone, you need to make sure that all your door sensor are working correctly, especially your trunk. if your car is equipped with the factory alarm, and does have the "beep" then when all doors are shut and all sensors are closed when you hit the lock button twice it will beep to notify that the alarm is armed

Yup everything is closed and locked. The sensors are working because when the doors or trunk are open the dash screen will say its open.

My 99 TL use to blow the horn when i'd lock the doors. I had to replace the battery and now it makes no sound. The doors just lock. Although when pressing the panic button, the alarm will go off.

Only 2000's and above have the soft beep. Wish my 99 did.

youre missing the point. the newer version doesnt honk or make any of those analog sounds. they make a DIGITAL beep. like a beep on a metal detector.

thats what we want.
