So I'm driving home from work...

Sorry if the following pictures aren't that great...

So I am driving home from work and this guy makes a left turn right in front of me. Needless to say I hit him and then slammed into the side of a bridge. My the grace of some omnipotent being (have to be politically correct and not offend) I did hit the bridge, otherwise had I gone three more feet to the right my TL and I would have been swimming in the river.

Minor gash to my head from hitting the windshield (seat belt tensioner issue?), seatbelt lacerations, pain in neck, and some scraping on my left forearm.

That is some damage. You are very lucky to only have minor injuries.

Where were the airbags to keep you from hitting the windshield?

It happened so fast, but I think they had already started to deflate by the time I hit the bridge.

Wow. That happened to me on a previous car except the woman made a right turn. You are fortunate. Looks like you will be getting a new car though.

No, i was not my fault. Contributing factors on the accident report list myself as none and the other driver as "Primary cause; failure to yield right of way".

But, on the report it says "Unknown" on his insurance information. If he does not have insurance then I will have to eat all of my deductibles.

He was transported to the hospital too, but I have not followed up yet because it's the weekend.

Thanks for the positive comments guys.

PS- Who wants some HID ballasts? They are sitting right there with that annoying bumper out of the way.

I am not sure yet, I will see what the insurance adjuster says this week. I was thinking about parting out stuff if/when they total it. Like you say; console, taillights, ballasts, a headlight, full size spare stock rims, etc.

Holy crap! Hopefully you don't have any soft tissue injuries that you don't know about yet. Hearing about you guys who survive nasty crashes with minor injuries gives me confidence to buy a new TL in a year and a half.

I hope that automakers are currently developing airbags that are prepared for secondary hits, but that would take years and years of development.

I feel very safe in my TL.

I feel very confident with Acura after this wreck also. Even the doctors were like, "Wow! That is all that happened to you?" after the police officer showed them some pictures he took on-scene.

One question to pose to you guys... what is the exact specifics on sealt belt tensioner issues? Should I have even hit the windshield?

I am sitting on it for right now (even though I suspect they will total it) because when I was broadsided two years ago I thought they would total that car, but they did not. So I will wait for the adjuster to tell me what's going on. The TL has been a real enjoyment to drive (despite the tranny issue) and I really think I will get another one... but I have to get the navi this time.

Essentially it is the ignitor for the xenon gas in the HID bulbs.

TRY TO MAKE SURE THEY TOTAL IT!!!

if you get it fixed its going to carry a salvage title, which will void the transmission warranty...hopefully they will total it and you will get a nice fat check for a new car

if you do decide to sell those taillights drop me a PM

Don't know about that. My TL was crashed 3 times before I got it, all pretty bad, not fender benders, and I was still able to have the tranny recalled.

Really sorry that had to happen to you but at least no major injuries. It sucks, but everything happens for a reason, maybe another idiot would've hit you a little further up and it would've been worse, you never know. If you can have it declared totaled and get another, that'd be cool.

The seatbelt tensioner deploys with airbags, but the seatbelt remains locked (or is supposed to). You should check into that.

The body shop called today and a preliminary estimate they are giving to my insurance company is just over $13,000! So, we'll see what happens when the adjustor looks at the car tomorrow.

Wonder if it's set up to handle a secondary collision or they were bad?!? What are the specific problems the recall addressed because it was not listed when I registered my car with the acura owner's website... only the trans issue.

I thought the seatbelt recall had to do with faulty buckles causing the SRS light to illuminate, not anything to do with the tensioners..

Correct me if anyone knows, because if there's a potential problem with the tensioners I'd like to have that fixed.

If you register at Acura Owner Link, you can read all about your car's recalls.
