Angry So this "Cop" pulls me over...

<rant>
...and I'm not speeding at all, make every stop complete with signal and everything. Confused as all hell, I find my registration and pull out my license. The "Cop" then claims that my tail lights are illegal. At first, I thought he meant the bulbs can't be white. Which (in NC) is illegal. Ok, that's fine, but the bastard proceeds to tell me it has nothing to do with the bulbs. It is the actual tail light turn signal cover, OEM mind you, that cannot be white. Scared shitless and not thinking straight after he asked me to get out of the car, I don't think about that far enough in advance to mention it to him. I mean after all I did add the tail lights on aftermarket, but it doesn't matter because they come STOCK on the 2002+ TL's. He did not give me a ticket but told me to change them. Since it is a campus "Cop" it makes it hard to avoid him for the rest of the semester if I neglect to fix the problem. Has anyone else experienced this? Any thoughts on the issue?

Well are your taillights specifically made by Honda/Acura or by an aftermarket company (eg Depo?). If they're Honda/Acura, they'll be stamped with the DOT/SAE number which makes them legal for use and you can point it out next time.

So I'm thinking about taking the clear (not hyperwhite, already got a ticket for those) bulbs out and put yellow ones in there. Maybe that would make me stand out a little less without having to change my appearance too much?

So, according to the cop, Mazda 626s, Camrys, Accords and all vehicles with clear turn signal lenses are illegal?!!

Tell him to put down the crack pipe and take it up with the DOT who approved these lights. Unless the DEPO/Matrix aftermarket lights are "for off road use only", they'll have the DOT number on them and they're legal. Don't sweat it!

exactly. there is definitely a number with a lot of digits and dashes stamped twice on the lights. once on the bottom of the brake area and once on the actual white turn signal part, in case the bastard is still skeptical. I think I'll be ok. Part of me actually wants Officer Cantgetajobanywhereelse to pull me over again, so I can dispute my VERY valid point.

dont change anything out. its definitly legal. even if its aftermarket, its still an OEM replicate. you can fight it and there will be nothing against you. but wow, a campus "cop". i cant believe he's actually thinking he's a professional or something. when im on campus, they dont do anything, i had my front license plate off, all my windows tinted, hyper white blinkers, speeding all over the parking lot.. there were even campus cops following me and they didnt even do anything. so i dont get what that cop's problem was
