Small shudder when accelerating
Small shudder when accelerating
Hey guys,
Love this forum...first time i couldn't find a solution for a problem im having.
My 2002 tl has 190k with original transmission. Since 150k, when accelerating, randomly, a small shudder will occur when shifting from second into third. I find it hard to believe that my transmission is finally going because this shudder is exactly the same as it was 40k miles ago. The shudder does not occur every time...just randomly. Any suggestions?

It's the transmission. Just think about it this way: what else could it be? I've yet to heat about a shudder caused by our engines, and if it happens only when shifting...
The shudder doesn't necessarily mean that the tranny is going to die soon. It may have a lot of life left. Still, you got your miles out of that OG tranny. 190k jeez..

Ok...figured i should NOT change the fluid because it never has been changed! Thanks karanx7 for clearing that up! Guess i should just live with the shudder and praise the tl gods for giving me such a trooper of a tranny!
Any thoughts on the tach jumping 250 rpm with no noticeable change in car?

After 190k of running without fluid change, there is going to be sludge buildup. Changing the fluid can disturb the setup going on, and will most likely kill the transmission within a few thousand miles.
The sludge actually becomes an necessary part of the transmission.
Normally, you shouldn't touch the fluid if it has been over 100k. Since he is at 190k, he's almost guaranteed to kill the tranny with a fluid change.
