Slips into neutral

I have an 03 tl...It has 250304 miles on it. It feels as if it slips into neutral and then into gear with a thud. It was running fine until it got real cold. Any recommendations?

to my knowledge the fluid nor filter has ever been changed...I got the car from my aunt and she changed the oil but nothing with the transmission.

Feels like mine has been doing this as well, but I just got the fluid changed this summer. Transmission failure might be on the horizon

Ugh

Every mechanic I've gone to has said....If u change the fluid at this point... The transmission is going to fell, just drive it till it stops. Go figure..... It's a $3,300 fix.

Time for an AV6 Swap if you are planning on keeping the car.. Its a 1000-1500 fix and it seems to be a definitive fix to the trans issues.
Rebuilding the trans will only get you 5 more years for 3300 bucks, Since they wont fix the internal issue that keeps the transmission dying.

Thanks

You know....I started really getting into trying to see what could be done about this issue cheaper...And I ran across a post here in acurazine stating the Same thing. I'm going to try and find someone here in Montgomery that's fimilar with the procedure. Do you do the swap or do you know someone that does?

I did the swap with the help of a friend who owns a Trans Shop.. Is not difficult at all in a shop, more than a couple of guys here have done it on their garages!..
The hardest part is to remove and replace the transmission because without a lift its a PITA but totally doable in a garage with the right tools, As far as the Swap Itself its just a matter of swapping the Transmission Safety Switch and ATF Warmer over from your Trans into the AV6s and in your case bypass the Power Steering speed sensor.

Look into the AV6 Trans Swap thread, I uploaded the full DIY with pictures on the last pages.
