Silicone Spray?

A mechanic buddy of mine said if i wanted to keep the condition of my hoses, lines, bolts, and pretty much everything else in the engine bay in really good condition, to occasionally spray it down with silicone spray... any input?? i already use the stuff on my door/sunroof/hood/trunk seals and its great. What do you guys think?

Yes is true. Actually Honda has a silicon spray. (I get those from a buddy of mine that works at the dealer) He recommends it too but do not spray them on the belts! It protects the plastic and rubber parts. The cons about that is that dust sticks on it so it looks like crap after a while.

Theres this thing called Maxima Chain Wax, I use it on my boat motors since I usually take them to the ocean. I dont know if it applies to cars, but it helps keep parts from corrosion.
