My tranny on my 02 TL-S is in for servicing now. The dealer told me that they had fixed the problem as of April of last year. That doesn't sound right after viewing these pages and seeing all of the problems. I mean 4 trannys. The car is a lemon. Dude, you should be able to do domething about that. Call consumer affairs. See whats happens.
I want to buy this car and now I am really thinking about it.
Good luck.

I just viewed the petition online form ,there it states you can look up cars for your state that have been bought back under the Lemon Law through the manu.....dealer. I viewed my state and I can't beleive how many are listed! 3 pages! of 00-03's including cl's. If you find your states site let us know...that will give some census on the matter ,to a degree anyway.

Lemon laws are very specific, car must be in the shop for 30 days, and within a certain time frame. My car was in the shop maybe 8 times and total days out of my hands was like 12, so it never aplied to me

Brought car in to get KHUMO tires to replace OEM and syn oil change (38k miles). I had noticed tranny slipping in 2nd gear, engine free rev(v?)ing so I mentioned it to service associate (Gary at Santa Monica, CA Acura). I was then shuttled to a shopping mall to wait for service to be over, and then I got the call that they were going to need to replace my transmission (DA#! Fu** S&*!!!!!!!). So I when I get back to the dealership they're out of loaners so they comp me a Ford Focus from Enterprise. I was told to expect a phone call whena loaner showed up, I was not optimistic and expected an accord or rsx.

I got an '04 loaner... it's freakin sweet def. a step in the right direction towards competing with higher grade luxury cars.
all in all it sucks because I don't know if it'll ever drive right again... but service was GREAT!

My advice, ENJOY YOUR CAR, if the tranny is gonna blow it'll blow, nothing you cand do about it, so have fun with a wonderful car.

Well if you are on your 2nd tranny now, you probably know that one doesn't need to race at all for the tranny to break.

I am on my 3rd. And now I make sure that I push the car hard. It is going to break again anyway, so I might as well have fun with it. But both hands on steering wheel.

Why don't you try to find out whether the '04 tranny is better than '02?

Thankfully I haven't had any problems. Are there many cases for the '99? Only about 70,000 on the car, but my wife's '01 Accord had the tranny replaced at 50,000 miles.

Number 2063! No tranny problems yet, although I had my entire steering column replaced 3 months after purchase. (no the steering wheel, but the actual mechanical stuff)

TL Tranny

This is my second TL (the first being a '99) that seems to have a confused transmission. The '99 (4 spd. auto) felt at times like it was coming unglued, hard shifting, severe clunk/bang when placed in reverse. Acura sent a warrantee repair notice to have it replaced even though it was past the coverage period. 6 months after the trans. was replaced, we traded for our 02 TL-S. This trans. (5 spd. auto) now is acting confused also. Not as bad as the last but still not right. Acura gets the car next week for the 45k check. Will let you know what transpires. Hey, maybe it’s me.

They actually replaced the entire seat assembly and installed a brand new leather seat cover......even the seat panels which had no rips! So far, the service has been great. Rest assured though, if Acura ever fails to meet or exceed my expectations I'll be right back here to sign this.
Elementz,
It is dissappointing that you dont feel the need to sign the petition now. I am glad to hear that your dealer has been good to you and I understand your loyalty but you have been screwed without realizing it. Like the rest of us, you have a potentially defective automobile and the value of all TLs have been decreased because of this problem. Take a few minutes and read some of the entries on the petition and see what others are experiencing. You paid for a car that should last >200,000 miles without a major mechanical failure.
I hope you got your moneys worth.

Elementz,
Sorry to hear about your tranny and thanks for signing the petition. I hope the new tranny that they installed is one with the newest fixes but I have doubts that Acura has come up with a fix for the problem.

Same here, in addition to some weird shifting (by the car, not me ;-)
I've also experience my car kind of reving (accelerating) while the car is completely stop and waiting on traffic, my foot is on the brake pedal and I can feel (and see on the tachometer) that the car is accelarating, really strange. Good luck to everyone....

I'm signuing the petition

I have a 2002 TL lease in November of 2002. Got my first new tranny at around 30,000 miles, in Late September 2002. It downshifted on the freeway on the offramp to Acura Oxmoor in Louisville going 60 MPH, then the engine revved and I Couldn't stop It. I thought I was going to die. My now ex-husband insisted we lease the car and now I'm stuck with it in the divorce, it's over milage and in order to get the milage forgiven I have to buy it from them in November at an inflated price and with bad credit from my divorce. The trade in value has fallen $5000 since February. Oh yes, now the Car has 86,000 miles on it and the trabny has gone bad again. This time it downshifted on a city street and I was close to home only going 20 MPH. I called the dealer and had it towed there. Soon as I can I'm trading it for a Mini Cooper

TL Tranny blues

I am Canadian eh? I have a 2002 TL Type S with tranny now acting up. I took it to the dealer because jumped out of 3rd gear and hard shifts to 2nd. The dealer (Toronto) says they have to experience the problem before they can repair/replace. So I drove it for another week and the same thing happened as I am making a left turn and nearly get wacked. I called Customer relations and they won't do anything.

I think I am going to get rid of the car. Trade it for one that I am not fearful I'll be killed in.

Is this petition for Acura to replace/fix ALL the trannies going to work? I'll sign in for it and I hope that we get somewhere with this. Last month, I just got a 2001 Silver TL with 23,000 miles on it. So far so good, but just hope it last for a while. I love the car but just worry about the tranny. What a pity!!!

Hi ppl, I finally saved up enough money to get a used 99-02 TL. I was just stopping by to check out pics until I saw this tranny thing. I also heared bunch of Hondas are being recalled for Tranny problems, but when I saw the consumer's guide it said that it's the timing belt is causing the problems but no recalls for transmission. My second choice is a Honda Accord 00-02 and I heard they use the same tranny as a TL. I have till the 24th to decide what car I want to get. Can somebody please help me out.....I don't want to be stuck w/ Camry for the next 4 years.
