I am aware that it shuts off sometimes when there are packages or a child in the front seat..But my light comes on when im alone, with no packages...Sometimes it stays on for a long time..Any ideas?

it's you not sitting properly. (ie...leaning on one side)

 

I sit normally...BEsides i have tried repositioning myself in different ways and the light stayed on..

 

Has the dealer had your seats out to do the seatbelt recall? Have you had the seats out for any reason? It is possible that you have a connection that is intermittent. You definitely want to have that checked. Wouldn't want that airbag NOT going off when it should.

 

The "side airbag off" light only works in conjunction with the passenger seat. If he's driving by himself in the car then it doesn't matter how he's sitting (unless he's driving from the passenger seat). I would say either a loose connection or--more likely--a faulty sensor. This sounds like a trip to the dealer.

 

I've got the exact opposite situation. It seems that no matter how a person sits in the passenger seat (leaning against the outside edge gently or hard, lifted slightly from the bottom, etc) my side airbag light does not come on. It lit briefly once, but it was not constant and I have not seen it again since. I didn't think that it would be such a specific circumstance needed to disable the airbag.

 

I too have noticed the airbag off light , coming on without passengers. Mine also comes on very easily with a passenger. These things seem to have a mind of their on.
