Side Air Bag Off light Question

I had my nephew in the front passenger seat and his about 50lbs and notice after a mile or two my side air bag off light turn on and off, it did this several times throughout the trip. should I take it to the dealer or is this because he shouldnt be in the front passenger seat since his not 75lbs. does the tl have a weight sensor?

I know for sure that it goes off if the occupant is leaning too much toward the deployment path of the side airbag. But I'm not sure if it has a weight sensor. Maybe he was just leaning back and forth?

no there is a sensor on the passenger (maybe the drivers side too) side, it disables the side airbag because the passenger is leaning against the door.. it is supposed to do that, for safty reasons, otherwise the side airbag would injur the passenger..

I have read many threads on this topic.. one member had his school books on the seat and it was doing that...He was like "WTF is going on!!"

Don't worry you car is fine..

hehe i get that a lot too... never realized it was because someone is leaning on the window.. usually happens when my brother is in the car and i just tell him to punch the side airbag and it goes away hehe... ghetto? yeah i guess
