I've raced both...if he's auto...race him and take his money....if he's stick, its going to be VERY, VERY close. If he's a good stick driver, you have a chance if you race to 100 mph and get a good launch...if you don't get a good launch and rdon't edline gears 1-3, you will lose.

one of my friends picked up a 330ci 2002 stick, we raced, he had me at first i caught up but at about 80 the MBW higher torque engine killed me, then he went and had an M chip upgrade done, now i cant even keep up with him period the car flyes.
the 330ci is the coop and with the MCHip its hot, and hard to beat, so far every car i have seen him race he has beaten,

I agree w/ everyone here .. it all depends on whether or not you hook up well off the line. If you do, and IF he has auto, it's in your favor (shift-gate shifting) .. if he's stick and a good driver, it's his all the way, sorry bro.

Considering we can hit the 1/4 mile in @ 90-95 mph, another 45 mph in 3/4 mile should not be out of reach.

Like everyone said, if hes good at the manual then he sure be able to take ya.

But if hes auto, then I would say it be a good race, but you should win.

Oh by the way, dinan chip raises the limiter... so be careful who you race on the highways.

Do it, and let us know who wins.
I prefer to shift through the gate than to use SS. Power brake to a little under 2K, shift right before 7K, and just keep it straight.

We have the same 0-60 time of 6.6 sec. But I'm not sure but I'm almost positive that we have a quicker 60-100 time. You should be able to beat him. Let me know what happens. Get a good start off the line and you should win.

i have about 500 miles on my car, the tires are brand new shape. His bmw has about 11000 miles on it. I think i am going to do it tomorrow (Sunday). What do you guys say.
1. VSA on/off
2. SS, if so do i just redline in every gear?

ps, we have a 2 mile long staight track built by his dad 10 years ago, no one will be hurt by any traffic mishap. Its pretty sweet actually, he has people come from all over to race on his track.
please give me any tips before i go for it.

:smokin:

No SS, no VSA, use gate-shifting (drop in to D1), I wouldn't suggest brake-torquing, you may just get crazy wheel spin/hop, just floor it when you guys decide to go (try to get the better rxn), shift @ 6800 rpms so that your car will actually shift around 7100 rpms (it take a while for the tranny to comprehend that you shifted to D2). So now you're in D2, do the same for D3, D4, etc... Man, if you're going 2 miles, he'll have you for sure once you get into 4th gear (though, I'm not too sure if 2 miles will be enough space for him to get you if he has auto).

Since he has auto -- you may very well be in good shape, best of luck, report back Sunday night if you get a chance!

Well shee-@$# ... if he's gunna leave it in, that all working to you advantage -- Can I suggest something else? Run near empty, lower your front tire pressure by 10 psi, and leave your spare and tools in the garage at home. You know, just to "insure" that you'll be the recipient of this check... hehehe

Best of luck -- oh and another thing -- try and warm up your tires before you launch .. do what they do at the dragstrip and floor your cars to get 'em to peel out just until they stop spinning, back up and do it again .. that should get 'em about as warm and sticky as they're going to get considering they're Michelin road tires.

Well we raced, the race took place at 9:00pm last night at my friends dads racetrack. Before the race i warmed up my tires by doing burnouts with vsa off to increase the stickyness of them. I decided to go with vsa off and SS. off the line, the SS shifted into 2nd gear at about 4200 rpm. Then i just redlined in every gear. He edged me until about the end of third gear, when i gained on him slowly. I caught up to him at about 85mph and just kept pulling ahead. My quarter mile time was clocked at 14.51 but no trap speed was measured becasue the radar gun was broken. All in all i ended up beating him in the mile by about 2 car lengths. Of course there was alot of s**ttalking when i won and collected my 300$. He blamed it on his sound system, i blamed it on his BMW!

haha!! Right on. I TOLD you to shift through the gates! He blamed it on his system? Just imagine if you would have shifted into 2nd at 7k; you would have totally smoked him. Even with the system in his car, your car probably weighed more.
What do you plan to do with the $300?

Well... I was gonna suggest you wait until you had at least 1500 miles on the odo. This is the reason the SS upshifted early from 1st to 2nd, the engine is still too tight.

So... wait until the engine's completely broken in (feels loose and revs-freely, not like it's struggling to gain rpm). Suggest double or nothing with or without his sound system and you should smoke him with way. :-)

Nice kill though...

From my experiences with races with BMW's, A 1998 four door BMW M3 whooped me on the highway when I was in stock trim. So instead of getting mad I got even. I went to Park Ave Acura in Maywood New Jersey and had the Comptech Headers and Injen Intake installed. On the way back to Boston, a silver 2-door M3 was revving at me. So I said to myself, ok lets see what these headers can do. Boy do these things work. I smoked, and when I say smoked I mean I smoked the **** out of this M3. He was ahead at about 70, but when I was in 3rd gear it was bye-bye Hitler. I cant believe how fast my TL accelerated to 130 mph. Seriously, I beat this guy cruising. 2door and manual. Best of all his blonde girlfriend was in the car too. How embarrasing is that to lose a race with your gf in the car. I took out my friends 540i manual also. Our TLS is not that great stock. So I would think twice about racing his 330ci. If you have the headers, intake, and stainless steel cat-back as I have, show him who is boss. Now that I have my Unorthodox Racing Pulleys and Denso Iridium Spark Plugs to add to my Comptech Headers, Injen Intake, and Tanabe Dual Stainless Steel Cat-back, the only thing that'll make me think twice is the m5 and e55. Lexus GS 430 bring it on anytime. Good luck if you decide to race. If you lose dont get mad get even.

nmb, congrats on the win --

Funny that it pre-shifted at 4200rpms... I ran mine w/ only 400 miles on the ODO when I first got it and it shifted at 7100 every time.. Don't quite know why yours did that -- had it redlined in 1st gear, you would have been ahead of him throughout the whole race. You may wanna get that checked out -- I don't think it should be doing that.

Headers are definitely much better to use on the highway than in city driving -- on the highway, drop into 3rd and you're already close to 4500 rpms and ready to start making use of the added hp from the headers -- however, from a stop, waiting to spin up to 5000 rpms is such a drag (no pun intended).

You'll win, i have a TL-P, and my friend has a stock 02 330ci, nice i must say, we raced 3 times, SS the first and he got the lead after 1st gear and stayed so i shut off early, the next two, i raced him by gate shifting so i could redline 1st, we stay the same up till 80mph and he started slowly puling away, if you raced him you'ed whoop him, just control the torque steer. I got to drive his 330ci too, it nice as hell, the tiptronic is backwords from ours, and i love how its RWD (no torque steer)

I hope you don't really think that you can run a 14.51 in your car -- that was pure fluke ... 'lest you be sprayin some ny-truss.
