Should I get a new air filter?

I got my aem intake like 2 years ago and I haven't cleaned or changed it since I got it. Should I get a new one? Im thinking of getting a Matrix one since its only $25. Will this help me in saving more gas too?

These filters work better when they have a little dirt on them, it's when they have too much dirt that they become restrictive. After about 2 years, depending on the mileage you put on the car, the filter is probably due for a cleaning. If you'd rather just replace it with a Matrix one, that's fine too. I put an S&B PowerStack on my AEM, it's a nice filter.

Check out this PowerStack filter some dude put on his Buick Roadmaster (the pic is from another forum):

PowerStacks have the airflow top and you can get them with different color top rings, mine is chrome too.

Buy a K&N air filter cleaning kit for $11 and clean it your self.

That's like the temple of the air filter. What is this guy thinking? There's no such thing as forced induction by simply putting a scoop on the filter...

Yeah, it's insane isn't it?!!

Here's his car before:

Noticeable power increase aside, I give him props for the creative engineering.

Why not look into a K&N Universal replacement ? I picked one up for about $38 for my Icebox. Free shipping from AJusa

Will this improve my gas mileage since the engine is sucking in cold air again and not dirt?

If you clean your 2 year old filter, it should make the car run better. I don't think the difference will be that noticeable. I've been using K&Ns in previous cars for years and from experience, they make good quality filters that can be reused. I don't know the quality of the AEM filter. Never had it. The foam filter that comes with the Icebox isn't made as well as a K&N IMO.
