Should I flush the tranny fluid ?
Hey gang,
I know this issue has been discussed to death but I just need an advice on my dilemma.
I noticed the tranny fluid on my TL-S has turned color to brownish about a month ago. I would like to know if I should go to the stealer and ask them to flush the tranny fluid ? (on my expense of course). Or should I just drive the car until the tranny kicks the bucket ?
The TL-S currently has 15.8k miles on it and I have not felt any slippage yet (knock on wood).
Please please please advise.
Cheers !!!

You should take your TL-S to the dealer and get it flushed. Thats about how many miles I had on mine when I got it flushed. Your baby will enjoy her freshness.

The flushing on the transmission fluid is certainly an important maintenence item, but doing it will not prolong the life of your tranny if it is going to fail. I can't think of any car built in the last 30 years that would *require* a transmission flush at 16K miles to avoid the tranny crapping out. Heck, my 1976 Plymouth Fury with a 3-speed automatic went 180,000 miles on the original transmission fluid and that car suffered through many a smoky burnout in my teenage years.
We've had members that have never flushed their fluid and are running fine and we've had some that have flushed at every 10K miles and had a tranny replaced. My fluid was perfectly pink and clean at 24,000 miles and at 24,750 the tranny went and the fluid was brown and burnt, and my car was *not* subject to any harsh driving conditions.
IMHO, changing it before 60K (as required in the manual) is probably a waste of money. Changing it at 30K is probably better for the tranny, but won't extend the life in any measurable fashion. And changing it sooner than 30K is definitely throwing away money.
Remember, that's just my opinion.

My philosophy is, drive this POS tranny until it dies, get it replaced with a better "version" and baby it. This POS tranny right now isn't worth your time/effort to take care of it...
my opinion.
