Should I buy 02 TL ????
I am thinking about buying a 02 TL with 46k miles, excellent cond from an older owner. I have been reading TL forums to do my research on the car, so far most peolple are happy with their car, but I also heard that TL's have tranmission problems, does anyone know what the percentage of TL's with tranny problem ? Should I take a chance with the TL, I really like the car a lot.
Thanks

I say buy 2!
Yeah seriously though, I upgraded from my 99 TL to my current 2002 TLS, and I love it. I'm not too concerned with the tranny issues, since they do have the extended warranty on them. That shouldn't cause you to second guess your choice to purchase a great car. Hope you enjoy it!

I bought mine a year ago from a dealer and at that time the car had 47000 miles on it, and soon in the summer I got the tranny replaced, otherwise so far there is no problem with the car.

The tranny would be covered under warranty if you were to buy the car right? If so buy it for sure.... actually buy it for sure anyway cuz TL's are awesome! Are you thinking about buying this from the dealer or private seller? How much are you getting it for?
About the trannies, from what I have gathered on this forum... As soon as the first tranny goes, most go through at least one - two more in a relatively low amount of miles compared to the amount of miles the original tranny lasted.

Thank you for all your recomendations. I am buying it from a private owner for $16900, he just got a tranny fluid changed, he never had any tranny problems, I test drove it and it shifts smoothly. From what I've heard if you change the tranny fluid on the TL more often, you won't have any problem with the tranny, is this a myth ?

It's a myth. The TL's transmission has a design flaw. Some fail, some don't but you will always have the risk.
If I could go back, I can't say I'd buy my 02 TL again. I like the features, but it's had too many problems for my liking. I got it at 33k miles and it has 60k now.
