I'm 6' 2" and I find the headroom a little lacking even with the seat set all the way down, even though I recline the seat about 15 degrees... so if anything I think the car is geared MORE toward the 5'6 heighted people.
That said, didn't she sit in the car and drive it BEFORE you shelled out 300 benjamins? Why bring this up now after you've brought it home? If you bought the car as a "surprise", or just did it on your own, this is more likely her way of telling you she's pissed that you didn't involve her in the car-buying process. And if she gave the car the thumbs-up earlier without sitting in it, well, she made her own bed, as they say.
My wife has no problem she is 4'11". I'm 6'5". Thank god for mem seats. I do have a bit of a headroom problem. My hair rubs the roof. I'm used to it though and it doesn't bother me. Its not my daily driver.
Iam 5'6 & a man I have no problems with the TL
When I started drivng about 24 yrs ago I drove big cars like Pontiac Bonivilles, Buick Electra 225, Caddillac Fleetwoods. All them monster cars compared to large cars of today. I did not have any problem driving them around in the city & on the highway.

I'm about 5'6'' range and I have a problem getting really comfortable. I took several test drives but test drives don't always indicate how well you'll like the car on a daily basis. My problem is that my knees ache on long trips no matter how far back or forward I move my seat. I drove our van all last week and my knees didn't ache but I've been driving TL all this week and they ache again. I told the MRS I might trade for an Avalon or something. I love my car, the way it drives, the climate control, the performance, but I don't love my seats. I had a 92 Integra and had 6 pmts left on it when I traded it for my 97 Maxima SE because I could no longer stand those Integra seats.

I'm 6'7" and find that there's good room inside and no real obstruction of view. However, my buddy has a 2000 TL and when his mom, who is about 5'2", drives the car she does mention that the mirrors create a blind spot for her.
I'm 5'7" and do notice myself looking above the side mirrors to see what I'm turning in to, sometimes. The mirrors do somewhat cause a blindspot depending on the turn I guess, not every turn mind you, far from it. It's really not a big deal to me but I know what your wife is talking about.
The 3 complaints I have about the mirrors are:
1. The rearview mirror is too small. I find myself constantly adjusting it depending on how I sit.
2. No reverse auto-tilting mirrors for parallel parking
3. The side mirrors aren't annodized(?). I'm not sure if that's the term. The TL-S' mirrors are bluish to reduce glare from SUVs.

Anyway are you talking about the "tint" in the mirror?

Dude! My wife just said the exact same thing today while she was driving my car around. The pillar and mirror get in the way when she is turning left. And she is 5'2"
But anyway, I think that anyone no matter what height they are, will agree that it is difficult to see around the A-pillar. I'm 5'6" and sometimes I have trouble seeing over the mirror, but the pillar doesn't bother me.
Be happy you don't have to drive a big ass Rental truck that you can't see behind you or easily to the side of you!

JR - I'm 5'6" and I know what you're wife is talking about, but after the first couple of days of driving, I got used to it as one gets used to the car I suppose.
RICKSLICK - I know exactly what you're talking about when your knees ache...try this. Lower the front portion of the seat. What I mean is that the cushion that your rear ends makes contact with should be parallel to the floor (if not slightly angled down) and try your best not to sit as high off the floor. Once i did that on my car, my knees have not ached since, until someone else sits in my seat and adjusts it and I have to readjust it. Good luck.

Geez talk about size difference....
I'm 6'0" and have no problem looking around the side mirror. Shorter people may want to raise the seat so they can see over the side mirror.
I do find that the right side A-pillar obstructs quite a bit of my vision, especially when I'm turning left onto a main street from a side street. That A-pillar is sometimes positioned just right to obstruct one car coming from the right. I have to keep reminding myself to peek both in front of and behind that pillar to make sure there's no-one there.
Rick: I know what you mean about the aching knees. I discovered that if you adjust your seat bottom just so, the front edge of the seat will press up against your thighs and cut off the blood flow to your lower leg, causing your knees to ache.
The solution is to lower the front lip of the seat and raise the rear so that there is not excessive pressure on the underside of your thighs. No more aching knees for me!
