the panel under the steering wheel, you have to remove the cover for the fuse panel, then there is 1 golden screw in there. you remove that then you just give it a good ol tug! the golden screw with a washer on mine is one of the screws under the wood trim on the center console that holds down the the rear part

once you get teh dark plastic trim ring off, mine came off easiest from the lower right hand corner. it just snaps on. if you push down on teh inner area of the silver piecs while pulling up on a corner that may assist you.

johnny-2k im sure we could work something out

You can just reverse them. Many poeple with other cars have done it to suit their preferences. BMW actually used to have it set up like Acura, but in thelast few years switched it around to approximate forward downshifts and backward upshifts like in stick shifts.

I actually liked the way the TL-S was set up, and couldnt get used to the BMW, so I retrofitted an SMG steering wheel with paddles in my car, and that now control my shifting from there. Wonder if that could somehow be done with the Acura.

Hmmm interesting thread.. The only auto car that I have seen that has the lever go back for a upshift shift and forwards for downshift are the BMW manumatics.

the one good thing is even at high revs the tranny wont shift if will damage the drivetrain... the loaner they gave me (glad mine is a stick).... wouldnt downshift unless it was a safe rpm to do so. so if u tried to go from 2-3 and accidently told it to go from 2-1 at high rpm the computer wouldnt allow it.... the gear gauge cluster would flash and tell you that you have been bad

I don't think the computer will allow a 2-1 shift on an AT at any rpm. Well, not in SS mode anyway.

Shouldnt. All your doing is switiching the direction that it shifts by moving 2 wires. Odds are the mech wouldnt even notice

All SS mode does is give you control over when it shifts. Move your shifter over to the little slot with the +- and start driving. (1st will automatically shift unless you have a 99) then just start shifting when you want it to. + is going up thru the gears - is going down thru the gears. You use this mode for spirited driving to hold a specific gear. The best we can do to explain it is tell you to go out and play with it.

thank you so much for the reply.

so when you move the shift to D. its automatic shifting? but when u move it into the lil + - area
its manual shifting?

also how would you know what gear you are in, or do you just count them off. and do you guys shift when ever you feel? whats a good shift RPM

Ok these are the pics. Instead of cuting the wires like i did i would repin the plug. its very easy. You will need to remove part of the center console to get to this plug

the following wiring for the 10 pin plug at the shifter (00-02):

Upshift - Pin #6
white w/ blue stripe (shifter plug side, male) to yellow (PCM plug side,
female)

Downshift - Pin #7
blue w/ yellow stripe (shifter plug side, male) to orange (PCM plug side,
female)
