I heard you can take the shift plate off and dip it in paint or graffiti remover to get the chrome look. If so, how do you remove the plate? I've never done this before so I want to make sure on how to do this without breaking anything.
Can someone help?

pop off that little rectangle thing with a flat head screw driver; then carefully work around the bottom of the black plastic ring around the shift plate and pry it up. then unscrew your shift knob (its kinda hard, but it will come off), then you can pop off the shift plate.
