Shift plate help.

I saw a couple people chrome out their shift plate and I as well want to do this easy mod. Problem is, I don't know how to take off the shift plate. I tried yesterday and I was only able to take off the outer plastic part from the shift plate. To those who have chromed out their shift plates, if they could tell me how to get the actual "shift plate" off, that'd be great. :p

I am not really sure how to take it out, but the best person you want to talk to is Neil. He is starter for this MOD.

Here is his first thread about it.

The way I did it was to first take off plastic trim, take off the shift knob, then hold the shift plate preety tightly and pull it out, is not hard to do just hold on the sides and pull out. Put some strenght into it, and it should come out easily. Then after chroming just pop it back into place.

Takes about 15 minutes for everything to be done. And use a good paint remover, got a aeresol one from wal-mart and it came off instantly with no need to use nails or razors. And hot water to take off all the ****, to reveal the chrome.

I just did mine and the best way to take it off is by removing the shift nob then the bezel. Once that is off you can push in the clips on one side while lifting outward and upward on the other side. Mine came off pretty easily.

This has got to be the easiest mod out there. Just let is sit in paint remover for 10 minutes then rinse it off. No need to rub or do anything else :wow:

I'm in Honolulu, and I not sure how to get chroming done? Can anyone help? Is ValueTL the only other TL enthusiast on the island?

lots of people have been trying to do something about the shift plate. So maybe someone should tell acura or someone to make chrome shift plates.

To get the shift plate off, you remove the outer plastic ring and the shift knob. Then push the shift plate to one side and it will pop off. Not much easier than that.

well , It is plastic correct ?
If so ,I know of a place that does crome plating on plastic, but it would be like the crome in a model kit. in fact that is what they do is model kits and caskit handels. If that is what you want i can get more info on how to contact them. lmk

u dont even have to take off the trim thing - remove the knob, use a coin or fabric cover a blunt flat screwdriver and pry it out -- bottomn side first -- it'll pop out -- i got mine out with my hands when I spilled something in it

its really ez...the shift plate and plastic holding it down is easy to pop off....just put a little pressure on it when you're trying to pry it off...

and then after u get the shift plate off, just soak it in PAINT REMOVER..u can get it from home depot or whatever hardware store..

its easy, i thought it would be more difficult...but nothing to unscrew and its pretty hard to mess up on this project.

good luck
