Shell Rotella 10W30 safe to use?

So I have a jug of Shell Rotella T5 10W30 semi syn and since diesel oil has more cleaning additives than gasoline oil I was wondering if it was safe to run it in my TL to clean out the engine since it's got over 250k on it.

The oil is rated SM certified as well as CJ4 certified so I doubt it'll do harm since my 2000 TL can run 10w30 in the summer weather.

If your gasoline engine is heavily modified to put out more horsepower, using a diesel oil can be beneficial. It’s likely modified engines will need a higher viscosity to withstand the increased stress. You can turn to diesel engine oils for those needs or you might want to consider a racing oil, depending on your engine modifications and lubrication requirements.

Many times the engine builder will help provide insight as to what success they have found. Outside of that, if you have a bone-stock gasoline-powered application it’s best to stick with a gasoline motor oil. They are designed for that type of application and have the components required to manage that engine.
doesn't do much in other words

What makes you think your engine has lots of buildup and/or deposits? On these J-Series engines, running a good quality 5W-20 or 0W-20 and changing it whenever the minder says to change is pretty much all you need to do to keep the innards spotless.

It's just preventative maintenance, I mean after all the car has over a quarter million on the odometer. I was just asking for opinions.

I've peeked inside numerous engines with that many miles on them, and if they're maintained properly, they don't typically have a spec of crud inside. If your engine has been well maintained, running Rotella won't do a bit of good.

I would run full synthetic gasoline oil in your acura. No benefits to use diesel oil.
